Fjørdal are a band from Germany that plays a pagan form of folk metal and this is a review of their self released 20220 ep "Prolog".
Nature sounds start off the ep before going into more of a heavier and melodic musical direction. Vocals are a mixture of death metal growls and black metal screams while folk instruments can also be heard at times along with some clean playing also being added into certain sections of the recording.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style while the whispered vocals when they are utilized briefly also gives the music more of a ritualistic feeling. Back up vocals can also be heard at times along with all of the music sticking to either a slow or mid tempo direction, one song is also a brief instrumental. and spoken word parts can also b e heard briefly
Fjørdal plays a musical style that takes pagan and folk metal and mixes them together to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in a mixture of German and English and cover Paganism themes.
In my opinion Fjørdal are a very great sounding pagan folk metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Trash" and "Old Enemy Arises". 8 out of 10.
