Fausttophel/Ultimum Lupus/Another Side Records/2021 EP Review

 

  Russia/Ukraine's  Fausttophel  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which shows  the  music  going  for  a  symphonic  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  from  their  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  ep  "Ultimum  Lupus"  which  was  released  by  Another  Side  Records.

 The  sounds  of  wolves  start  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  while  all  of  the  instruments  also  sound  very  powerful.  Vocals  are  done  in  mostly  an  angry  shouting  style  that  is  more  closer  to  thrash  metal  than  previous  releases  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.

    Clean  vocals  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  some  black  metal  screams  also  being  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  recording  as  well  as  one  of  the  tracks  also b einf  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Symphonic  sounding  keyboards  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  one  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  some  death  metal  growls  also  being  utilized  briefly,  tremolo  picking  is  also  added  into  some  of  the  faster  riffing  and  the  ep  closes  with  a  cover  of  Lunar  Onlooker's  "Burn,  The  Flame,  By  Shades  of  Time,  Take  The  Winning  Color!  which  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Fausttophel  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  melodic  and  symphonic  black,  death  and  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Ultimum  Lupus".  8  out  of  10.

Fausttophel/No Liars Among The Fallen/Another Side Records/2019 CD Review

  Ukraine's  Fausttophel  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  their  melodic  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  from  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  album  "No  Liars  Among  the  Fallen"  which  was  released  by  Another  Side  Records.

  Dark  sounding  synths  and  ritualistic  spoken  word  parts  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  during  the  faster  sections  of  the  music.

  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams  while  clean  vocals  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  a  high  death  metal  growls.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  Clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  the  fast  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking.  Synths  also  make  a  return  on  some  of  the  later  tracks  as  well  as  giving  the  songs  more  of  a  symphonic  touch,  some  of  the  songs  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  as the  album  progresses  a  small  amount  of  ethnic  style  instruments  and  ritualistic  style  percussion  can  also  be  heard.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Ukrainian  and  cover  Occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Fausttophel  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  melodic  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "V  Kuznie  Gefesta"  "Kryla"  "Put'  zaGran'"  and  "Lilt".  8  out  of  10.

Fausttophel/Wings/Another Side Records Records/2019 Single Review

  Ukraine's  Fausttophel  have  returned  with  a  new  song  which  continues  their  melodic  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  single  "Wings"  which  was  released  by  Another  Side  Records.

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  song  along with  some  keyboards  a  few  seconds  later  that  are  also  mixed  in  with  the  heavy  parts  before  going  into  a  very  fast  musical  direction  which  also   uses  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be heard  briefly  as  well  as  some  death  metal  growls  also  being  utilized  at  times  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  On  this  track Fausttophel remains  true  to  their melodic  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  from  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  Fausttophel  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  melodic  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  single.  8  out  of  10.

Fausttophel/Sacta Somplicitas/Another Side Records/2016 CD Review

  Fausttophel  are  a  band  from  Ukraine  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  melodic  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "Santa  Simplicitas"  which  was  released  by  Another  Side  Records.

  A  very  dark  keyboard  intro  along  with  some  spoken  word  samples  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  musical  direction  along  with  some.  melodic  guitar  leads  and  symphonic  elements  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  make  their  presence  known  on  the  recording.

  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  a  great  amount  of  death  metal  growls  can  also  be  heard  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  you  can  also  hear  a  great  amount  of  melody  in  the  guitar  riffing  and  spoken  word  parts  also  return  at  times.

  Elements  of   thrash  can  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  classical  guitars  as  the  album  progresses  along  with  a  brief  use  of  folk  instruments  while  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  a  alter  song  uses  melodic  singing  and  they  close  the  album  with  a  cover  of  Edge  of  Sanity's  "Black  Tears".

  Fausttophel  creates  another  recording  that  takes  symphonic  and  melodic  black  metal  and  mixes  it  in  with  death  metal  to  create  a very  dark  yet  heavy  recording,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while t he  lyrics  are  written  in  Ukrainian  and  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Fausttophel  and  if  you are  a  fan  of  symphonic  and  melodic  black/death  metal,  you  should  enjoy  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Die  Cavities"  "Sick  Earth"  "Song  Of  The  Leper"  and  "Black  tears".  8  out  of  10.

Fausttophel/Thirst Of Oblivion/Metal Scrap Records/2013 CD Review

  Fausttophel  are  a  band  from  Russia  that  plays  a  mixture  of  melodic  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2013  album  "Thirst  Of  Oblivion"  which  was  released  by  Metal  Scrap  Records.

  "Feather_Hanjar"  begins  with  some  sound  effects  and  spoken  word  parts  and  serves  as  an  intro  for  the  album.

  "Looking  For  Lights"  begins  with  some  heavy  and  melodic  guitar  riffs  along  with  some  drums  and  synths  which  lead  to  some  blackened  vocals  that  utilize  some  screams  before  going  into  a  faster  direction  along  with  some  blast  beats  and  a  few  seconds  later  the  music  slows  down  and  starts  adding  in  guitar  solos  and  leads  briefly  and  then  goes  into  a  softer  direction  along  with  some  experimental  synths  which  leads  to  the  music  getting  heavy  again  and  bringing  in  some  melodic  female  vocals.

  "Spell"  begins  with  some  melodic  guitar  leads  which  leads  to  some  blast  beats  from  the  drums  before  slowing  down  and  adding  in  heavy  guitar  riffs,  synths  and  deep  death  metal  growls  which  also  start  utilizing  some  black  metal  elements  as  the  song  moves  on  as  well  as  bringing  more  blast  beats  and  switching  back  and  forth  between  slow  and  fast  parts  and  after  awhile  there  is  a  brief  use  of  melodic  guitar  solos  and  leads  being  utilized  briefly.

  "Part  Of  You"  begins  with  some  soft  acoustic  guitar  playing  and  then  going  into  heavy  guitar  riffs,  drums  and  synths  and  after  awhile  the  song  goes  into  a  faster  direction  along  with  some  blackened  metal  growls  and  screams  and  then  slowing  down  and  adding  melody  into  the  guitar  riffing  and  then  the  song  starts  switching  back  and  forth  between  slow  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  adding  in  guitar  solos  and  leads.before  returning  to  a  softer  direction  with  the  acoustic   guitars  briefly  and  going  back  to  being  heavy  again  as  well  as  bringing  back  some  leads  and  closing  in  a  softer  direction.

  "Thoughts"  which  is  a  Kollaps  cover  begins  with  some  spoken  word  parts  and  a  minute  later  heavy  guitar  riffs,  drums  and  synths  make  their  presence  known    before  going  into  a  faster  direction  along  with  some  blast  beats and  black  metal  screams  and  you  can  hear  some  melody  coming  out  of  the  guitar  riffs  which  leads  to  the  song  slowing  down  and  then  switching  back  and  forth  between  slow  and  fast  parts.

  "Thirst  Of  Oblivion"  begins  with  some  soft  acoustic  guitars  before  adding  in  heavy  guitar  riffs,  drums,   prog  keyboards  and  deep  death  metal  growls  and  after  awhile  the  music  gets  faster  and  the  vocals  start  utilizing  some  black  metal  influences  before  switching  back  and  forth  between  slow   and  fast  parts  as  well  as  bringing  in  a  brief  use  of  melodic  guitar  leads  that  come  in  and  out  and  spoken  word  parts  before  going  back  to  the  acoustic  guitars  and  bringing  in  some  female  vocals  and  after  awhile  the  music  gets  heavy  again  and  the  song  closes  with  an  opera  sound.

  Song  lyrics  cover  dark  and  everyday  themes  while  the  production  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  heavy  and  professional  sound  with  the  bass  guitars  being  mixed  down  low  in  the  mix  and  the  last  song  is  very long  and  epic  in  length

  In  my  opinion  Fausttophel  are  a  very  great  sounding hybrid  of  melodic  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Looking  For  Lights"  and  "Parts Of  You".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
