Asgaard are a band from Poland that started out as a symphonic mixture of black and gothic metal and on this recording goes for a mixture of acoustic prog rock and electronic music and this is a review of their 2024 ep "Lullabies For Harlots" which will be released on November 29th by Via Nocturna.
Synths and electronic music sounds start off the ep while also adding in a good amount of programmed beats. Vocals are done in a clean style close to goth rock an industrial along with the recording also having its progressive moments.
One of the songs is also a Behemoth cover which also adds in a brief use of spoken word samples and also adds in some symphonic touches mixed in with some harsh black metal screams and death metal growls while each song also sounds very different from each other and they also bring in 3 acoustic guitars which also moves away from the electronic elements of the earlier tracks, whispered vocals can also be heard briefly.
On this recording Asgaard move away from the symphonic black and gothic metal style of previous releases and brings in more of a mixture of electronic music and acoustic progressive rock with only the Behemoth cover going back to their earlier roots. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in a mixture of English and Polish and cover suffering, romance and death themes.
In my opinion Asgaard are a very great sounding mixture of acoustic prog rock and electronic music and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Mother Of Harlots" and "What If...". 8 out of 10.
