Brotthogg/Ved Veis Ende/2025 Full Length Review

 

  Norway's  Brotthogg  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  melodic  and  progressive  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2025  album  "Ved  Veis  Ende"  which  will  be  released  in  September.

  A  very  fast  and  brutal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls  while  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  elements  of  thrash  metal  can  also  be  heard  at  times.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  album  also  has  its  progressive  moments.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  lot  of  melody  as  well  as  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  a  few  songs  also  brings  in  more  of  an  angry  shouting  style  of  vocals  and  some  tracks  also  add  in  a  small  amount  of  synths.

  On  this  recording  Brotthogg  focuses  more  on  a  melodic  and  progressive  style  of  black  metal  as  well  as  mixing  in  elements  of  death  and  thrash  to  create  a  very  heavy  album.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Norwegian  and  cover  philosophy,  misanthropy  and  folklore  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Brotthogg  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  melodic  and  progressive  black,  death  and  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Fram  Kryp  Fanden"  "Pesta"  and  "Mare".  8  out  of  10.

Brotthogg/Epicinium/2022 Full Length Review

 

  Norway's  Brotthogg  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  a  melodic  and  progressive  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2022  album  "Epicinium"  which  will b e  released  in  October.

  A  very  dark,  heavy  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  solos  and  leads  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  melody.  Death  metal  growls  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  black  metal  screams  can  also  be  heard  at  times.  

  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Synths  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  the  music  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  thrash  metal  elements  as  well  as  the  music  also  having  its  progressive  moments,  tremolo  picking  can  also be  heard  in  some  of  the  faster  riffing  and  angry  shouts  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording,  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

  On  this  reocrding  Brotthogg  takes  their  melodic  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  into more  of  a  progressive  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  misanthropic  and  philosophical  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Brotthogg  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  melodic  and  progressive  black,  death  and  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "When  The  Curtain  Falls"  "Ravn"  and  "Possessed".  8  out  of  10.

Brotthogg/The Die Is Cast/2020 Full Length Review

  Brotthogg  are  a  band  from  Norway  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  melodic  and  progressive  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  album "The  Die  Is  Cast"  which  will  be  released  in  August.

  Cinematic  sounds  start  off  the  album  before going  into  a  heavier  and  faster  musical  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.   Vocals  are  mostly  black  metal screams  along  with  some  groove  metal  style  vocals   also  being  used  at  times and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  melody.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  synths  can  be  heard  in certain  sections  of  the  recording.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  the  music  also  get  very  progressive  sounding  at  times.

  Brotthogg  are  a  band  from  Norway  that  plays  a  melodic  and  progressive  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2019  album  "Echoes  of  The  Past".

  A  very  fast,  heavy  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  death  metal  growls  are  also  utilized  at  times  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  The  music  also  mixes  in  a  great  amount  of  thrash  metal  elements  as  well  as  having  its  progressive  moments  at  times  and  when  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  as  the  album  progresses  acoustic  guitars  and  synths  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

  Brotthogg  plays  a  musical  style  that  is  mostly  rooted  in  melodic  black  and  death  metal  while  also  mixing  in  some  progressive  and  thrash  metal  elements  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  misanthropy,  philosophy  and  the  writings  of  Dante.

  In  my  opinion  Brotthogg  are  a  very  great  sounding  melodic  and  progressive  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Summoning"  "The  Aftermath"  and  "Total  Death".  8  out  of  10.
