Folk instruments start off the album and also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. Harsh vocals bring in a style similar to black metal while the riffs also add in a lot of melody along with the recording also adding in a lot of symphonic style orchestration and the riffs also add in a lot of melody.
Elements of death metal are also utilized at times while a great portion of the tracks are also long and epic in length. When guitar solos and leads are added into the music they are done in a very melodic style along with the faster sections of the album also adding in a decent amount of blast beats.
Choir vocals are also added into certain sections of the recording along with some spoken words also being used briefly. Throughout the album you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts, clear singing can also be heard briefly and acoustic guitars are also introduced towards the end. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in Dutch and is a concept album based on untold legends from t he 19th century.
In my opinion Vanaheim are a very great sounding epic folk metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Geestenmist" and "Roede voor de Borst". 8 out of 10.
