Agathodaimon/The Seven/Napalm Records/2022 CD Review

Germany's  Agathodaimon  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  a  gothic  and  symphonic  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "The  Seven"  which  will  be  released  on  March  18th  by  Napalm  Records.

A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  some  growls  also  being  utilized  at  times  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.

Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  clean  vocals  also  give  the  songs  more  of  a  gothic  metal  touch.    All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  album  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  at  times  the  music  also  gets  very  symphonic  sounding.

When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  a  couple  of  tracks  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts.  Clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  as  well  as  a  couple  of  the  songs  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  Seven  Deadly  Sins.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Agathodaimon  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  symphonic  and  gothic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "La  Haine"  "Ghosts  Of  Greed"  "Estrangement"  and  "The  Divine".  8  out  of  10.

Agathodaimon/In Darkness/Massacre Records/2013 CD Review

Agathodaimon  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  with  a  musical  style  I  would  describe  as  being  gothic,  symphonic  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2013  album  "In  Darkness"  which  was  released  by  Massacre  Records.

Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  a  good  amount  of  blast  beats  being  thrown  into  the  music,  while  the  keyboards  bring  a  very  dark,  atmospheric,  gothic  and  symphonic  sound  to  the  music,  as  for  the  bass  playing  it  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  the  riffing  that  are  coming  out  of  the  guitars  and  at  times  they  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  melodic  black  metal  riffs  that  also  utilize  a  great  amount  of  gothic  influences  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  while  the   lead  guitars  are  very  melodic  sounding  gothic/black  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads,  as  for  the  acoustic  guitars  when  they  are  utilized  use  full  chords  and  finger  picking  to  enhance  the  dark  atmosphere  of  the  music.

Vocals  range  from  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  to  clean  singing  gothic  vocals  as  well  as  some  spoken  word  parts  and  deep  death  metal  growls,  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  heavy,  dark  and  professional  sound  to  it  and  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording  along  with  a  couple  of  the  songs  being  long  and  epic  in  length.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Agathodaimon  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  enjoy  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "In  Darkness  We  Shall  Be  Reborn"  "Favourite  Sin"  and  "Dusk  Of  An  Infinite  Shade  (Amurg)".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

Agathodaimon/Blacken The Angel/Nuclear Blast Records/1998 CD Review

Agathodaimon are a symphonic/gothic black metal band from Germany and this is a review of their classic 1998 album "Blacken The Angel" which was release by Nuclear Blast Records.

Drums cover alot of ground with some slow to mid paced drumming with alot of fast playing and brutal blast beats, while the keyboards are very atmospheric, symphonic and melodic sounding, as for the bass playing it has a very powerful sound that follows the riffs coming out of the guitars and there are some bass leads at times.

Rhythm guitars mix in some slow doomy melodic riffs mixed in with some fast black metal riffing, while the lead guitars are melodic sounding guitar solos that contain quite a bit of sorrow with some soft acoustic playing being used at times that gives the music a poetic and depressive feel.

Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams with a small amount of deep grows and some clean singing female vocals, while the lyrics are written in a mixture of English, German and Romanian that cover themes such as depression in a poetic way, as for the production on this recording which was recorded at Communication Studio through the months of Oct 97 to Feb 98 sounds very professional and you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this album.

In my opinion Agathodaimon are a very good band and this was their best album, and while the other albums they recorded after this where good, they never topped this one, if you are a fan of symphonic/gothic/atmospheric black metal you should check this band out.
RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Banner OF Blasphemy" "Ill Of An Imaginary Guilt" "Near Dark" and "After Dark". RECOMMENDED BUY.
