Netherbird/Into The Vast Uncharted/Eisenwald/2019 CD Review

  Sweden's  Netherbird have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  into  more  of  a  melodic  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  album  "Into  The  Vast  Uncharted"  which  will  be  released  in  September  by  Eisenwald.

  A  very  heavy  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  solos  and  leads  also  use  a  great  amount  of  melody.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  along  with  some  symphonic  elements  also  being  mixed  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  music  briefly  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Elements  of  death  metal  can  also  be  heard quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  as  well  as  some  growls  also  being  utilized  at  times.

  Clean  vocals  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  some  songs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  classical  guitars,  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and struggle  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Netherbird  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  melodic  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Saturnine  Ancestry"   "Lunar  Pendulum"  and  "Nexus  of  Unlight".  8  out  of  10.

Netherbird/The Ghost Collector/Black Lodge Records/2017 CD Re-Issue Review

  Netherbird  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  has  had  a  decent  amount  of  material reviewed  before  by  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  played  a  very  melodic  and  symphonic  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2008  album  "The  Ghost  Collector"  which  was  re-issued  in  2017  by  Black  Lodge  Records.

  Symphonic  sounding  keyboards  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  spoken  word  parts  a  few  seconds  later  before  going  into a   heavier  and  more  melodic  direction  as  well  as  mixing  the  symphonic  and  heavy  parts  together  and  after  awhile  grim  black  metal  screams  make  their presence  known.

  Death  metal  growls  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  and  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording  and  elements  of  goth  and  doom  metal  are  also  utilized  at  times  and  when the  music  speeds  up a   great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard,

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  hear  a  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  some  tracks  also  add  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  vocals  while  classical  guitars  are  also  used  briefly  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  one  track  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  rain  and  thunder  sounds  and  some  of  the  songs  are  instrumentals  and  as  the  album  progresses  female  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  one  song  also  adding  in  clean  male  vocals. 

  Netherbird  played  a  style  of  black  metal  on  this  recording  that  was  very  melodic  and  symphonic  while  the  death,  doom  and  goth  metal  elements  made  the  songs  stand  out  a  lot  more,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  struggles  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  was  a  very  great  sounding  recording  from  Netherbird  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  melodic  and  symphonic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  re-issue.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Blackest  Breed"  "Lighthouse  Eternal  (Laterna  Magika)"  "Forever  Mournful"  and  "Boulevard  Black".  8  out  of  10.

Netherbird/Hymns From Realms Yonder/Black Lodge Records/2017 Compilation Album Review

  Netherbird  are  a  band  from  Sweden  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays a   symphonic  and  melodic  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a review  of  their  2017  compilation  "Hymns  From  Realms  Yonder"  which  will  be  released  in April  by  Black  Lodge  Records.

  A  heavy guitar sound  starts  off  the  compilation  along  with  some  symphonic  elements  and  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  a  few  seconds  later  while  death  metal  growls  are  also  utilized  at  times  and  melodic  chanting  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  using  a  great  amount  of  melody.

  A  great  amount  of  melody  can  be  heard  in  the guitar  riffing  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  be  heard  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  a  touch  of  90's  era  gothic  black  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

  Some  tracks  also bring  in a   small  amount  of  violins  while  the  slower  riffs  are  very  heavily  influenced  by  doom  metal.  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sounds  very  powerful  and  some  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  as  the  compilation  progresses  spoken  word  parts  are  introduced  into  the  music  and  there  are  also  a  couple  of  instrumental  tracks  while  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  one  tacks  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  melodic  singing  and  they  also  bring  in  Sentenced.  Paradise  Lost,  and  Annihilator  covers.

  On  this  compilation  Netherbird  takes  some  songs  from  different  eras  with  some  tracks  being  in  the  melodic  and  symphonic  black/death  metal  direction  while  some  tracks  have  a more  goth/doom  metal  style  to  them,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  struggles  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  collection  of  songs  from  Netherbird  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  symphonic  and  melodic  black/death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  compilation.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Sculptors  And  Spectres"  "Born  Defiant"  "Nightwards"  and  "Alison  hell".  8  out  of  10.

Netherbird/The Grander Voyage/Black Lodge Records/2016 CD Review

  Sweden's  Netherbird  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  that  continues  the  melodic  style  of  black  metal  from  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "The  Grander  Voyage"  which  will  be  released  by  Black  Lodge  Records  on  October  28th.

  Water  and  thunder  sounds  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  clean  guitars  a  few  seconds  later  and  after  awhile  melodic  guitar leads  and  grim  black  metal  vocals  are  added  onto  the  recording  which  also  leads  up  to  a  heavier  direction  and  the  riffs  also  use  a  great  amount  of  melody  while  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  during  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have a   very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  songs  also  bring  in a  great  mixture  of  slow, mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  acoustic  guitars  are  also  added  into certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  some  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  faster  riffs  also  use  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  are  heavily  influenced  by  doom  metal.

  Netherbird  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  the  melodic  black  metal  style  of  previous  releases  while  also  moving  away from  the  symphonic  style  and  adding  in  touches  of  doom  metal  to  take  their  style  to  another  level,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover darkness  and  struggles  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Netherbird  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  melodic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Hinterlands" "Pillars Of  The  Sky"  and  "Emerald  Crossroads".  8  out  of 10.

  A  very  fast  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  single  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  and  when  the  music  slows  down  a  bit  symphonic  elements  are  added  onto  the  recording  and  both  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and fast  while t he  vocals  are  high  pitched  screams.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  solos  and  leads  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  the  first  track  is  very  long  and epic  in  length  and  both  of  the  songs  can  also  get  very  atmospheric  at  times  while  also  mixing  in  influences  from  doom,  death  and  post  metal.

  Netherbird  creates  2  songs  that  remain  true  to  the  melodic  and  symphonic  style  of  black  metal  that  was  established  on  previous  releases,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness and  struggles  themes.

Netherbird/Shadows And Snow/2010 EP Review

  Netherbird are a band from Sweden that plays a very melodic, gothic and symphonic form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2011 ep "Shadows And Snow".

Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with some blast beats being used at times, while the keyboards bring a very dark, atmospheric and symphonic sound to the music along with some use of a violin being played, as for the bass playing it has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars and at times they have a very powerful tone with gothic rock riffs.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast melodic black metal guitar riffs with a brief use of soft and clean playing being utilized on the last song, while the lead guitars are very melodic and skilled sounding guitar solos and leads that utilize a great amount of talent.

Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams with some deep growls being used at times as well as some spoken word parts and a brief use of clean singing chanting being utilized on the last song, while the lyrics cover very dark themes, as for the production it has a very strong, heavy, powerful and professional sound and you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording.

In my opinion Netherbird are a very great sounding atmospheric/gothic/symphonic melodic black metal band and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Shadows And Snow" and "Nightwards". RECOMMENDED BUY.
