Folkrim are a band from Finland that plays folk metal and this is a review of their 2022 album "On Foaming Waves" which will be released in October by Inverse Records.
Folk instruments start off the album and also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard while the riffs also add in a great amount of melody and the harsh vocals bring in a mixture of black metal screams and death emtal growls.
Back up vocals can also be heard at times while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Clear pagan vocals are also added into certain sections of the recording along with all of the musical instruments on the album also having a very powerful sound to them as well as some songs also adding in a small amount of acoustic guitars, spoken word parts can also be heard on a couple of tracks and one song also introduces keyboards and symphonic touches into the music.
Folkrim plays a style of folk metal that also mixes in the aggression of black and melodic death metal to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover beer and nature themes.
In my opinion Folkrim are a very great sounding folk metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Blackout" "Crack A Cold One" "Midsummer Mead" and "Winterstorm". 8 out of 10.
