Helsott are a band from Menifee, California that plays a mixture of folk, pagan and death metal and this is a review of their 2022 album "Will And The Witch" which will be released in may by M-Theory Audio.
A very heavy yet melodic sound starts off the album while all of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them. Vocals are a mixture of death metal growls and black metal screams along with the guitar solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style.
At times the music also gets very symphonic sounding while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Blast beats can also be heard in the faster sections of the album along with some tracks also adding in a small amount of folk instruments and some of the riffing also shows an influence of thrash metal.
At times the music also adds in some touches of Native American music along with some tracks also adding in some back up shouts. One song also adds in some session work from Tim 'Ripper' Owens who also brings in a power metal style of vocals onto the album as well as some of the songs also being very long and epic in length.
Acoustic guitars can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and as the album progresses a brief use of clear vocals can also be heard. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are a concept album based upon a fictional story on how Billy the Kid became the faster gunslinger in the west.
In my opinion Helsott are a very great sounding mixture of folk, pagan and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "I'' Make You Famous" "Independence Night" "Navajo Crow" and "Regulators". 8 out of 10.
