Caedeous are a band from Portugal that has been featured before in this zine and plays a symphonic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2023 album "Malum Supplicium" which will be released in April by Black Sunset.
Synths and spoken word parts start off the album along with some symphonic elements a few seconds later which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. Operatic female vocals can also be heard in certain sections of the recording while the faster sections of the songs also add in a lot of blast beats.
Tremolo picking can also be heard in some of the faster riffing while the vocals also add in a good mixture of black metal screams and death metal growls. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style when they are utilized, choirs can also be heard briefly. The production sounds very professional while t he lyrics are a concept album based upon horror stories dealing with good, evil, angles, demons, heaven and hell with some inspirations from the writings of Lovecraft, Barker and Alighieri.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Caedeous and if you are a fan of symphonic black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Cruxis Inferni" "Pandemonium" and "Malum Supplicium". 8 out of 10.
