Siberian are a band from Sweden that has been featured before in this zine and plays a blackened and progressive mixture of sludge and post metal and this is a review of their 2019 ep "Live At Studio Underjord" which will be released in February by the Sign Records.
Avant garde style soundscapes start off the ep along with some melodic riffing being added onto the recording a few seconds later. All of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them. A great amount of melody can also be heard in the guitar solos and leads and the vocals are mostly sludge style screams.
A great amount of post metal elements can also be heard quite a bit throughout the recording. At times the music gets very progressive along with some influences from the more atmospheric side of black metal and the slow riffs also bring in the heaviness of doom metal.
All of the songs are recorded live along with one track also introducing clean guitars onto the recording. When the music speeds up a small amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can also be heard which also enhances the more black metal side of the bands musical style. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover an Orwellian view on modern society.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Siberian and if you are a fan of progressive, post, black and sludge metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Axis Mundi" and "Witness'. 8 out of 10.
