  Neon  Noodle  are  a  solo  project  form  Michigan  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  sludge,  doom  and  death  metal and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2022  album  "Opiate  Rebel".

  A  very  slow,  dark  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  also  introducing  elements  of  sludge  and  doom  metal  onto  the  recording.  Vocals  are  mostly  cavernous  death  metal  growls  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  solos  and  leads  bring  in  more  of  a  dark  yet  apocalyptic  and  melodic  style.

  Some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  small  amount  of  melody  at  times.  Elements  of  black  metal  can  also b e  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  along  with  one  song  also  being  a  brief  acoustic  instrumental  and  the  whole  album  also  sticks  to  a  slower  musical  direction. 

  Neon  Noodle  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black,  sludge,  doom  and  death  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  his  own.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  death  themes.

   Bog  Body  are  a  duo  from  New  York  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  sludge  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Cryonic  Crevasse  Cult"  which  will  be  released  in  May  by  Profound  Lore  Records.

  Field  recordings  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  lo-fi  musical  direction.  Elements  of  sludge  and  doom  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  along  with  the  bass  guitar  being  a  lead  instrument  and  there  are  no  use  of  any  6  string  guitars  on  the  album.

  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats.  A  lot  of  the  music  also  shows  a  good  mixture  of  both  old  school  and  modern  influences  along  with  some  of  the  faster  riffing  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  tremolo  picking  as  well  as  one  track  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts,  psychedelic  soundscapes  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

  Geisterfaust  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  plays  a  blackened  form  of  sludge  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  ep  "Servile  Mirrors  Of  Anomosity"  which  will  be  released  on  April  29th  as  a  joint  effort  between  Morbid  And  Miserable  and  Altstadtwolf  Records.

  A  very  clean  yet  distorted  sound  starts  off  the  ep  before  introducing  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  onto  the  recording  which  also  takes  the  music  into  a  heavier  direction.  Elements  of  sludge  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard.

  Growls  are  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  while  dark  sounding  melodies  and  tremolo  picking  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  closing  track  is  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Italy's  Cadaveria  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  horror  orientated  mixture  of  black,  dark  and  gothic  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album    "Emptiness"  which  will  be  released  in  May  by  Time  TO  Kill  Records.

  A  very  dark,  heavy  yet  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  black  metal  screams  a  few  seconds  later.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  clean  vocals  also  bring  in  elements  of  gothic  metal  into  the  music  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  also be  heard  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  yet  old  school  style.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  dark,  death  and  traditional  metal  touches  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  on  some  of  the  tracks  along  with  a  couple  of  songs  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  as  well  as  the  slower  sections  of  the  album  also  showing  an  influence  of  doom  metal,  synths  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  when  whispers  are  utilized  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  ritualistic  feeling  and  the  album  also  closes  with  a  cover  of  Deine  Lakaien's  "Return".  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  and  Horror  themes.

  A  very  heavy  yet  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  guitar  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  symphonic  sounding  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  in  the  faster  sections  of  the  album  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  folk  instruments  and  some  of  the  riffing  also  shows  an  influence  of  thrash  metal.  

  At  times  the  music  also  adds  in  some  touches  of  Native  American  music  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  some  back  up  shouts.  One  song  also  adds  in  some  session  work  from  Tim 'Ripper'  Owens  who  also  brings  in  a  power  metal  style  of  vocals  onto  the  album  as  well  as  some  of  the  songs  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  clear  vocals  can  also  be  heard.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  a  concept  album  based  upon a  fictional  story  on  how  Billy  the  Kid  became  the  faster  gunslinger  in  the west.

  A  very  dark  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  ep  while  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  as  well  as  introducing  orchestral  sounds  onto  the  recording  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs.  Most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  faster  sections  of  the  music  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats.

  On  this  recording  Sinnrs  remain  true  to  the  orchestral  and  melodic  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  that  they  have  established  on  their  previous  release.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  death  and  anti  Christianity  themes.

  The  tracks  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  some  of  the  songs  also  being  long  and  epic  in  length,  tremolo  picking  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  faster  riffing  and  clean  vocals  are  also  added  on  the  closing  track.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  seeking  the  sublime  in  nature,  being  genuine  in  a  deceptive  world  and  living  with  the  idea  of  death.

  In  my  opinion  NightWraith  are  a  very  great  sounding  melodic  mixture  of  black,  doom  and  death  metal  with  some  touches  of  70's  rock  and  if  you  are  a fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Hedonic  Adaptation"  "The  Great  Acceleration"  and  "The  Snake  And  The  Rope"." 8  out  of  10.

Unbowed/Colour The Soul/2022 CD Review

 

  Unbowed  are  a  band  from  Ontario,  Canada  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  melodic  form  of  blackened  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Colour  The  Soul"  which  will  be  released  in  May.

  Acoustic  guitars  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  while  synths  can  also  be  heard  at  times.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can b e  heard  along  with  the  vocals  being  a  mixture  of  clean  singing,  growls  and  screams  that  also  being  in  elements  of  black  and  death  metal.

  The  riffs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style. Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,   mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  of  the  faster  riffing  also  adding  in  a  good  amount  of  tremolo  picking.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  one  of  the  tracks  also  introducing  clean  playing  onto  the  recording  and  some  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  session  work  from  the  members  of  Thrawsunblat,  Finntroll  and  Mother  of  All  as  well  as  one  of  the  tracks  also  being  an  instrumental.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  nature,  religion  and  mythology  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Unbowed  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  melodic  and  blackened  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Hero  Lux"  "Stream  Of  Life  Flow  Of  Death"  "Home"  and  "This  Mourning  Shade".  8  out  of  10.

Tele.S.Therion/Nejromantische Hexentvm [Ta Megala Mysteria]/Radical Matters/2022 Triple Album Review

 

  Tele.S.Therion  are  a  band  from  Italy  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  musical  style  they  described  as  being  'acousmatic  black  metal'  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  triple  album  "Nejromantische  Hexentvm  [Ta  Megala  Mysteria]"  which  was  released  by  Radical  Matters. 

  Avant  garde  sounds  start  off  the  album  while  the  music  also  gets  very  experimental  sounding  at  times.  When  synths  are  utilized  they  also  bring  in  elements  of  dark  ambient    along  with  the  music  also  mixing  in  a  great  amount  of  percussion  and  homemade  instruments  and  most  of  the  tracks  are  also  30  or  more  minutes.

  Stringed  instruments  can  also be   heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording  while  the  electric  bass  is  also  utilized  as  a  lead  instrument.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  ritualistic  sounding  along  with  some  tracks  also  touches  of  noise  along  with  a  lot  of  the  songs  also  being  done  in  more  of  an  instrumental  direction.

  A  lot  of  the  music  also  brings  in  more  of  a  Abruptum  style  of  black  metal  along  with  some  songs  also  adding  in  the  use  of  a  real  drum  kit.  Screams  can  also  be  heard  in  the  background  briefly  as  well  as  all  of  the  music  also  being  improvised.  some  of  the  slower  riffing  also  shows  an  influence  of  doom  metal  and  some  songs  also  add  in  touches  of  free  jazz  and  drones.  At  times  the  music  also  captures  the  atmosphere  of  a  disturbing  nightmare  soundtrack  and  all  of  the  music  sticks  to  a  slower  direction  while  the  production  sounds  very  dark.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  from  Tele.S.Therion  and  if  you  are  a f an  of  black,  doom  metal,   experimental,  dark  ambient,  avant  garde,  ritual,  drone  and  noise,  you  should  check  out  this  triple  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "II  "V"  "VIII"  and  "X".  8  out  of  10.

Kaamos Warriors/Spirit From The Void/Inverse Records/2022 Full Length Review

 

  Finland's  Kaamos  Warriors  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  atmospheric,  melodic  and  symphonic  mixture  of  black  and  dark  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Spirit  From  The  Void"  which  will  be  released  in  April  by  inverse  Records.

  A  very  dark,  heavy  and  atmospheric  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  When  keyboards  are  utilized  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  symphonic  feeling  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.

  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls  while  the  songs  also  mix  in  a  a lot  of  dark  metal  elements.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  spoken  word  parts,   clean  playing  and  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

  The  slower  sections  of  the  songs  also  show  an  influence  of  the  more  melodic  side  of  the  early  90's  doom/death  metal  era  along  with  some  gothic  metal  touches  and  most  of  the  music  sticks  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  a  mixture  of  Finnish  and  English  and  cover  darkness,  winter,  night  and  chaos  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Kaamos  Warriors  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric,  melodic  and  symphonic  black  and  dark  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "In  Blood  And  Spirit"  "The  Flames  of  the  Dragon"  "Into  Thy  Light"  and  "Surrun  mustat  siivet".  8  out  of  10.

  Finland's  King  Satan  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  industrial,  symphonic  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Occult  Spiritual  Anarchy"  which  will  be  released  in  April  as  a  joint  effort  between  Blood  Blast  Distribution,  Electric  Spark  Records  an d  Hemelvlam.

  Elements  of  industrial  start  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times  while  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording.  When  keyboards  and  synths  are  utilized  they  also  add  in  some  symphonic  touches  and  the  vocals  are  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls.

Perunwit/Wszystkie odcienie szarości/Black Death Production/2021 CD Re-Issue Review

 

  Perunwit  are  a  band  from  Poland  and  on  this  recording  played  a  ritualistic  mixture  of  dark  ambient,  neo-folk  and  pagan/folk  metal  and  this  is  a review  of  their  2000  album  "Wszystkie odcienie  szarości"  which  was  re-issued  in  2021  by  Black  Death  Production.

  The  sounds  of  wolves  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  dark  ambient  style  synths  a  few  seconds  later.  Ritualistic  sounding  whispers  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  the  acoustic  guitars  also  bring  in  elements  of  neo  folk  when  they   are utilized  and  percussion's  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording.

  Spoken  word  parts  are  also  added  on  some  of  the  tracks  while  some  of  the  songs  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Clean  pagan  vocals  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  album  along  with  some  songs  also  adding  in  electric  guitars  as  well  as each  song  also  sounding  very  different  from  each  other,  grim  black  metal  screams  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  folk  instruments  can  are  also  added  at  times.,  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.

  On  this  recording  Perunwit  took  ritual,  neo  folk  and  dark  ambient  and  mixed  it  with  pagan,  black  and  folk  metal  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Polish  and  cover  Paganism,  History  and  Heritage  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  was  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Perunwit  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  ritual,  neo-folk,  dark  ambient  and  pagan/folk  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  re-issue.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Pieśń  o  słońcu,  płodności,  narodzinach,  życiu  i śmierci"  "Wszystkie  odcienie  szarości"  and  "Gods  Of  Thunder".  8  out of  10.
