Rats Of Reality are a band from the United Kingdom that has been featured before in this zine and plays a mixture of black metal, doom, death, crust punk and thrash and this is a review of their self released 2016 ep "Obsequies".
Clean playing and melodic guitar leads start off the ep before going into a crust punk direction which also utilizes a more black metal vocal approach and the drums also mix in a lot of d beats and they also mix in the atmosphere of goth rock at times and most of the tracks are very short in length.
Deep death metal growls can be heard in the music at times and when t he music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while some of the riffs are also heavily influenced by thrash and the slower riffs add in a touch of doom and when guitar solos and leads are utilized they add in a touch of NWOBHM and there is also a brief use of spoken word parts.
With this recording Rats of Reality go into even more of a melodic blackened crust direction this time around while some elements of doom, death, and thrash are present in the music, the production sound s very raw and old school while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Rats Of Reality and if you are a fan of melodic, blackened crust, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Catharsis" and "Mar". 8 out of 10.
