Labyrinthe Heirs are a band from Texas that plays an avant garde form of black metal and this is a review of their self titled 2025 album which will be released in march by I, Voidhanger Records.
Spoken words start off the album before going into a heavier direction while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. The songs also mix in a lot of avant garde and noise rock elements along with the vocals being mostly grim sounding black metal screams and most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length.
When the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can also be heard while some of the riffing also adds in some dissonant touches. Some of the tracks also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the whole album also sticking to a heavier musical direction, tremolo picking can also be heard in some of the fast riffs.
Labyrinthe Heirs plays a musical style that takes an avant garde form of black metal and mixes it with noise rock to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Gnosticism, the Cloud of Unknowing, the works of Jiddu Krishnamurit, existentialism and anxiety themes.
In my opinion Labyrinthe Heirs are a very great sounding avant garde black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Brick Refusers Quartered" and "Satan's Domain is The liver". 8 out of 10.
