Orquilux/The Desire To Vanish Myself/2019 Full Length Review

Orquilux  are  a  band  from  Italy  that  has  recently  been  featured  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  symphonic  and  melodic  mixture  of  black  and  folk  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2019  album  "The  Desire  To  Vanish  Myself".

A  very  dark  sounding  prologue  starts  off  the  album  while  also  introducing  stringed  instruments  and  synths  onto  the  recording  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  music.  Vocals  bring  in a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls  as  well  as  some  clean  vocals  also  being  utilized  at  times.

Elements  of  doom  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  while  the  acoustic  guitars  when  they  are  utilized  show  an  influence  of  folk  music.  Flutes  and  Celtic  instruments  can  also  be  heard  at  times  as  well  as  the  music  also  having  its  progressive  moments  and  symphonic  sounds  are  also  mixed  into  some  of  the  heavier  sections  of  the  recording.

When  the  music  speeds  up  on  a  couple  of  songs  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  but  keeping  the  focus  more  on  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  style  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  being  instrumentals.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  sorrow,  love,  anger,  nostalgia  and  happiness  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Orquilux  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  symphonic,  melodic  and  progressive  black  and  folk  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "A  Strange  Feeling"  "Trying  To  Reach"  and  "The  Bell  Tower".  8  out  of  10.

  1. This recording sound as garbage! There' s no consistency between the tracks, no climax, no real instruments (the string section, flute, and the last two songs are only sound samples) the mixing is awful (clean vocals are so loud and yet you can't hear the bass guitar). This album also costs 6 euros in digital download, no jewel case! For this price, you can buy a much higher quality album. For me is 2 out of 10

    1. It's not the best recording, it's true, but it's not even garbage! i don't see where you say that the tracks have no climax and no real instruments, yes there is some library vst of orchestra and the drum is probably digital too, but that are doesn't mean it's not "music", library vst are used in every (excluding somes) record, couse you can't find orchestra's everywhere to work with your projects, and also it's used to make videogames/film music! so if you don't know they, got structured hand by hand! (even the greatest film music composers uses them!. just an example: Hans Zimmers, Johann johann johannsson, Ramin Djawadi, ecc)((in the 10th song, the half of the song is played without a orchestra/piano library, and only a guitar and some synths so you're wrong in here, yes they are samples but note by note recording (so it's like you are playing an instruments but with different sounds ,if you play a piano you can make great things with that!). Yes the mix is not good, it's true! i liked many ideas of this debut album and some songs(and the bass guitar i can hear it) yea this album cost 6 euros, it's not a really expensive price neither a cheap price, I listened to worse albums, with absurd prices, i found that this guys use really much the streaming, so you don't needs to pay for listen it! of course is subjective the way you listen, but if i need to say in a objective way is a decent album to listen! (of course it's just that i want to express my opinion about!)
