Rumahoy/Time II: Party/Napalm Records/2020 CD Review

  Rumahoy  are  a  band  from  North  Carolina  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  folk  and  pirate  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  album  "Time  II:  Party"  which  will  be  released  on  July  17th  by  Napalm  Records.

  Water  sounds  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  along  with  some  chants  and  spoken  word  parts  while  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  folk  metal  elements.  Clean  vocals  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  as  well  as  the  vocals  also  adding  in  a  rough  pirate  style  and  accordions  are  also  mixed  in  with  the  heavy  parts  of  the  songs.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  also  show  more  of  a  metal/rock  style  at  times  along  with  one  track  also  adding  in  some  touches  of  electronic  music  and  hip  hop  style  vocals,  some  of  the  riffing  also  shows  an  influence  of  thrash  metal  and  most  of  the  tracks  also  stick  to  a  mid  tempo  style  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  demonic  voices  can  also  be  heard.

   On  this  recording  Rumahoy  removes  all  of  the  black  and  extreme  metal  elements  from  their  previous  releases  and  focuses  more  on  a  straightforward  pirate/folk  metal  style.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  pirates,  booty,  questing,  drinking  and  humor  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Rumahoy  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  folk  and  pirate  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Cowboys  Of  The  Sea"  "The  Legend  Of  Captain  Yarrface"  "The  Beer  From  My  Town  Is  Better  Than  Yours"  and  "Stolen  Treasure".  8  out  of  10.

Disillumination/Return To Fire Fields/Entocomophobic Records/2020 Album Re-Issue Review

  Disillumination  are  a  band  from  Columbia  that  plays  a  melodic  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "Return  To  Fire  Fields"  which  was  re-issued  in  2020  by  Entocomophobic  Records.

  Tragic  sounding  keyboards  and  winds  start  off  the  album  along  with  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  along  with  the  music  also  being  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  death  metal  growls  are  also  utilized  at  times.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

 The  music  also  adds in  a  great  amount  of  Swedish  influences  along  with  one  track  also  introducing  acoustic  guitars  onto  the  recording  as  well  as  a  later  song  introducing  clean  playing  onto  the  album,  keyboards  also  make  a  brief  return  on  an  instrumental  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  death  and  occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Disillumination  are  a  very  great  sounding  melodic  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Internal  Suffering"  "Azazel  Throne"  and  "The  Call  Of  The  Grave".  8  out  of  10.

Dead Bronco/The Annunciation/Sun & Moon Records/2020 CD Review

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  U.S.A/Spain's  Dead  Bronco  which  continues  their  mixture  of  black,  sludge  metal,  punk,  goth  rock,  rockabilly,  country,  Americana  and  folk  music  and  the  album  will  be  released  in  July  by  Sun  &  Moon  Records  and  called  "The  Annunciation".

Acoustic  guitars  start  off  the  album  and  also  brings  elements  of  folk,  country,  and  American  onto  the  recording.  The  vocals  are  done  in  mostly  a  clean  style  that  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  goth  rock  and  rockabilly  along  with  some  songs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  keyboards  and  grim  black  metal  screams  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

  Some  of t he  heavier  riffs  also  capture  the  heaviness  of  sludge  metal  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  At  times  the  music  also  brings  in  the  raw  energy  of  punk  rock  along  with  some  songs  also  adding  in  guitar  solos  and  leads

  Clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording  along  with  one  track  also  introducing  psychedelic  rock  touches  onto  the  album  as  well a s  the  music  also  being  more  aggressive  than  the  previous  recording  reviewed  on  one  the  closing  track  the  music  also  speeds  up  and  also  adds  in some  tremolo  picking,  blast beats and  demonic  growls.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark,  depressive,  satanism,  country  life  and  religion  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Dead  Bronco  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  sludge  metal,  punk,  goth  rock,  rockabilly,  country,  Americana  and  folk  music,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Church  of  The  Endless  Road"  "Do  Us  Part"  "Suicide  Is  All  I  Think  Of"  and  "The  Annunciation".  8  out  of  10.

  Dead  Bronco  are  an  international  band  with  members  from  U.S.A  and  Spain   that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  sludge  metal,  punk,  goth,  Americana,  folk,  world  and  country  music  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  album  "Driven  By  Frustration"  which  will  be  released  in  July  by  Sun  &  Moon  Records.

  Acoustic  guitars  start  off  the  album  and  also  introduce  elements  of  folk,  country  and  Americana  onto  the  recording  while  the  slow  and  heavy  riffs  also  add  in  the  heaviness  of  sludge  metal.   The  clean  vocals  also  add  in  touches  of  goth  rock  and  rockabilly  as  well a s  the  mid  tempo  sections  showing  some  punk  rock  influences.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  at  times  touches  of  blues  rock  can  also  be  heard  as  well  as  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  steel  guitars,  folk  instruments  are  also  added  in  some  parts  of  the  recording  and  the  music  also  captures  the  darkness  of  black  metal

  Dead  Bronco  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black,  sludge  metal,  punk,  goth  rock,  rockabilly,  country,  Americana  and  folk  music  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  something  that  is  very  original  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark,  depressive  and  country  live  themes.

Ensiferum/Thalassic/Metal Blade Records/2020 CD Review

  Finland's  Ensiferum  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  epic  folk  metal  style  of  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  album  "Thalassic"  which  will  be  released  in  July  by  Metal  Blade  Records.

  Water  sounds  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  clean  vocals  and  acoustic  guitars  a  few  seconds  later  while  the  music  also  brings  in  some  symphonic  sounding  keyboards  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  melody.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls  are  also  utilized  at  times.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  some  back  up  shouts.

  The  clean  vocals  also  add  in  some  elements  of  pagan  and  power  metal  when  they  are  utilized  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  in  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  as  well  as  some  tracks  also  adding  in  some  folk  instruments  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  history,  myths,  legends  and  heathenism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Ensiferum  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  enjoy  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Seafarer's  Dream"  "The  Defence  of  The  Sampo"  "One  With  the  Sea"  and  "Cold  Northland  (Vainamoinen  Part  III".  8  out  of  10.

Skyfall/Sleeping Forest/Trullpanter Productions/2020 Full Length Review

  Skyfall  are  a  solo  project  from  Sweden  that  plays  an  instrumental,  symphonic  and  orchestral  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2020  album  "Sleeping  Forest"  which  will  be  released  on  June  26th  by  Trullpanter  Productions.

  Stringed  instruments  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  synths  a  few  seconds  later while  the  music  also  mixes  in  a  great  amount  of  symphonic  and  orchestra  elements.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  along  with  the  riffs  also adding  in  aa  lot  of  melody.

  A  lot  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  black  metal  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  A  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  some  songs  also  showing  an  influence  of  death  metal  as  well  as  the  music  also  having  its  progressive  moments  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  classical  guitars  can  also  be  heard.

  Skyfall  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  black  and  death  metal and  mixes  them  with  symphonic  and  orchestra  elements  to  create  a  sound  of  his  own  as  well  as  keeping  everything  instrumental  and  the  production  also  sounds  very  dark.

  In  my  opinion  Skyfall  are  a  very  great  sounding  instrumental,  symphonic  and  orchestral  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Awakening"  "Decadence"  "Sleeping  Forest"  and "Desolation".  8  out  of  10.

  A  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  When  the  music  speeds  up a   great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  lot  of  melody  and  the  vocals  also  add  in  a mixture  of  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams.

  As  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing,  female  vocals  and  synths  can  also  be  heard  briefly  as  well  as  a  brief  instrumental  but  keeping  the  focus  on  a  heavier  direction  and  they  also  take  the  Swedish  style  of  the  90's  and  update  it  for t he  modern  era.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  struggle  and  grief  themes.
