Pagan Reign Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?

Greetings! We do not stand still. During our absence on the stage, we have accumulated a large number of new ideas and musical material. Therefore, the immediate future life of the group will be devoted to the implementation of new thematic albums. Album Once Again is timed to the fact of the reincarnation of our group and its awakening from a long lethargic sleep. We can say that our first album after a long lull is a prologue to the following main elements. He is very emotional and sincere, because it reflects our own life and worldview. Thus, the work burns, soon we will publish material on the work on the new album.

2.In December you had also released a new album, musically how does it differ from the stuff that you have released in the past?

Once Again, a deeper, we can say Philosophy album. There are a lot of our personal experiences and reflections on it. Plus, we touched on the subject of the ancient civilization of the Gods - Hyperborea. In the texts there are hints of the extraterrestrial origin of our ancestors:
«Behind the sunlight beyond a white river
Is our stellar cradle».
Similar parallels can be found, for example, in the lyrics of the song - On Fiery Simargl's Wings, etc.
Musically, we have become more thoughtful about both music and its production, and, of course, the performance skills and the number of techniques used in the process of arrangements have increased. But, as on the previous albums, the most important component of our creativity are gorgeous melodies and music in general. Now we are ready to present our unique style to the listener. Pagan Reign is not to be confused with anyone.

3.This is also your first full length since 2006, how do you feel both the pagan and folk metal scenes have evolved during that time frame?

Pagan - folk metal scene for our absence has expanded quite significantly, we can say that it has become a definite trend, but the development has gone towards alleviating the overall sound and primitivization of the melodic component, along with the frequent attribute in the form of a female front singer or alcoholic theme of the lyrics of songs. At the same time, the expansion of the pagan folk metal geography is pleasantly surprising.
One of the reasons for our return to creativity was the surprising fact that since the release of our last album for 2006 (Твердь / Ancient Fortress), no one has ever released anything like it.

4.Your lyrics deal very heavily with Slavic Paganism, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in this topic and also do you have an interest in the other forms of Paganism form different countries and cultures?

Yes, paganism is our worldview, however, we are looking at this topic much more broadly than the desire to "dance around" wooden idols. For us, this is a system of traditional values inherited from our ancestors, thanks to which we have clear guidelines on life. In this regard, we are not opposed to technical progress and do not support people calling for everything to be destroyed and leaving to live in the forest with primitive tools. We are more likely cosmists, and we see the future in man’s knowledge of the universe and its endless spaces in every sense of the word. And we respect the cultural heritage of other nations, especially the Indo-European family, which is common to us. And it is quite natural for a Slav, being, for example, a guest on the lands of Scandinavia, to raise his horn to the glory of Odin.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Pagan Reign'?

This name speaks for itself and reflects our concept both ideologically and musically. This is the dominance of the traditions of the ancestors and our desire to show the triumph and beauty of the ancient heritage.

6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the album cover?

Each element has its own global meaning. If you look at the center of the illustration, you can see the cut of a hazel nut with annual rings. This is the story of the life of Pagan Reign and creativity in general. We have stood the test of time and are ready for rebirth and transformation into something perfect. It is also a reflection of the Tree of Life of the Universe. Sawdust can be seen at the bottom of the illustration, it is a symbol of the fact that over the years we have rejected the husk and created something really valuable and important. The gusli (psaltery) with sounding strings reflect our attitude to the musical traditions of the ancient Slavs (by the way, the gusli made Orey with their own hands). The strings go up and dissolve in cosmic stellar space. Thus, music is the language of our communication with the Archetypes and the Universe. This is magic and a tool for changing the surrounding reality.

7.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Our concerts are always held in close dialogue with people who came to listen to us. Therefore, on all shows, we always give all the best and get a huge return. But, despite our rather wide creative arsenal, we always treated the concerts calmly and focused on writing new music. Therefore, new live concerts will begin only after we embody at least half of the musical material that has accumulated during our reincarnation.

8.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

Yes, such plans exist, but only after the recording and implementation of the next album in 2019.

9.The new album was released on 'Yarko Music Production', can you tell us a little bit more about this label?

This is an independent label founded by us together with the group Tverd and currently specializes only in publishing albums and the merch of our formations.

10.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your newer music by fans of folk, pagan and black metal?

Our fans reacted with great joy, and overwhelmingly accepted the new material very well. Some noted that the new album is the most melodious and emotional in the history of the group. Although, how could it be otherwise, if it is a reflection of our personal experiences and euphoria from the realization that we have revived after so many years? The next album will carry a different thematic and emotional charge, respectively, and the music will be different. It will be a real blow of the Slavic Gods. Now our resources and capabilities have increased: we have our own sound and video production, and we are ready to delight our listeners with high-quality music more and faster.

11.Are any of the band members involved with 'Твердь' these days?

Yes, all members of Pagan Reign are the core of the Tverd. We can say that Tverd took over the baton from Pagan Reign for the period of freezing.
Tverd (Твердь) is our side project, which is dedicated to the history of ancient Rus’.

12.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

At the moment, the main goal is the realization of musical material and the promotion of our music, the creation of video material. In the long run, these are live performances, primarily in Russia and Europe, Japan and North America in the future.

13.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

If you take the Metal in general, it is bands like Carcass, Death, Immortal, In Flames (1994, 1996), Amorphis (1994), Bal-Sagoth, etc. Slavic bands - Nocturnal Mortum and Gods Tower. If you take music as a whole, it’s Russian composers of the «Могучая Кучка» times (The Five, also known as the Mighty Handful and the New Russian School) - Alexander Borodin, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and his follower Alexander Glazunov and others. As well as old folk music and traditions of Russian choral polyphonic singing.

14.What are some of your non musical interests?

What is unique to the metal scene in general is that Vetrodar and Orey are medical doctors! ;)
In general, it is history, nature, science, fantastic works of art.

15.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Thank you for your interest in our art.
Stay Pagan! Слава Богам!

Norvhar Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band? We are an Epic Folk Metal band from Lausanne, Switzerland. We are 6 musicians and we all have a big experience of stage in others bands. We exist for 2 years now.

2.Recently you have released an ep, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style you went for on the recording? As we are influenced by a lot of bands and styles, we tried to mix our main inspirations to create our own universe. We did a mix between the “drinking songs” part of folk metal and the “epicness” side.

3. A lot of your lyrics are influenced by both Nordic Mythology and the writings of J.R.R Tolkien, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in these topics? In Norvhar all of us have read books of Tolkien and many more fantasy authors. We also have a quite good knowledge of Nordic mythology, so it appeared as a natural way to us to use both of those thematics.

4. Originally the band was called 'Harmoniks', what was the cause of the name change and also the meaning and inspiration behind the name "Norvhar'? We decided to change because Harmoniks has been running for around 10 years. There were no former members in the band anymore, and we chose to change name before our 1st EP, as a “new beginning”. The meaning of “Norvhar” is quite simple actually : we had another band years ago which was called “Nordreign”, and we used the “NOR” particle. We also would like to keep something from Harmoniks so we kept the “HAR”. And finally we thought about the “visual” part of the band’s logo, so we chose to add a “V” in the middle.

5. Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the ep cover? It’s been created and drawn by the swiss designer Agnès Keller, who is a good friend of us. We explained her the ideas and the concept behind “Kauna” and she did this beautiful artwork! This artwork presents the place where the story of Kauna is happening: an old and dark forest, filled with creatures.

6. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance? We played as open act for Finntroll some months ago, it was a really nice show and a killer crowd! By the past we also opened for bands such Tyr, Moonsorrow, Black Messiah. But as far as we are on stage, despite the size of the venue or the number of people in front of us, we do the best show we can. It’s important for us because we have seen too many gigs as spectators with bands playing with sad faces because there were not as many people as they wanted etc.. Our stage performances as always full of fun and smiles, we love to play for people and we try to bring the best ambiance !

7. Do you have any touring or show plans for the future? We will be playing at Lid Ar Morrigan Fest in May, it’s a very nice festival near Nantes. We’ll also play in Lenzburg in June with Morgarten and more. The second half of 2019 will be more interesting.

8. Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest? We have been contacted by a few companies, but for the moment we are not looking for collaboration. We would like to remain the “masters” of our work, and maybe in the future we’ll be looking for a worldwide distributor.

9. On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of folk metal? Very positive! We received reviews and feedbacks from all over the world. We’ve sent CDs to fans in Canada, USA, Mexico, Germany and France for example, and we are also distributed in Japan by a store in Osaka.

10. What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of? Some of us are playing in other swiss acts like AM:PM, Peace Is Just A Break, Darkrise, Murge, Mathilde, and our drummer is touring with even more bands. We are very active! We also have founded an association, called SONS OF YMIR, to promote local and international folk metal bands by organizing shows and festivals. We did the 1st edition the 16th of February and we invited Celtachor from Ireland.

11.When can we expect a full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future? Actually we have already begun the composing process for the upcoming album, I think we’ll release it in 2020. We don’t want to wait too long, because we would like to climb the ladder a little bit ;)

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays? I personally am a huge fan of the old folk metal scene, with acts like Moonsorrow or Finntroll or Ensiferum etc and I am pretty sure that the others feel the same. On a more recent point we all like the work of Equilibrium, especially the “epic” touch they add. The list is very long!

13.What are some of your non musical interests? We all work beside Norvhar, and we practice together our biggest passion : drinking beers and writing epic stuff. But we also are normal human being, so we love different kind of activities of course.

14.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?  Dwarves will win.

Ahl Sina Interview

1. For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

Sure, We are AHL SINA Band from Egypt, Germany and USA, the band was originally  formed in Egypt in 2009 founded by our Singer “Moustafa Troll” We want to sound completely different! Making music that doesn’t sound like other bands! Our lyrical message is about human conflicts and peace!

2. Recently you have released your first full length, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style you went for on the recording.

AHL SINA is an Oriental Extreme Metal inspired mainly by the old legacy of the Egyptian folklore music mixed with old school Metal. In this record We went through many different styles, you will find the music flow change from one riff to another, from classic rock to the extreme melodic Death & Black metal.

3. The band has been around since 2009 but you waited until 2019 to release the first album, can you tell us a little bit more about the earlier years?

Actually, the beginning was earlier than 2009, it was Me, Shung & Ronnie alone in a band called (BEYOND EAST). In 2005 we recorded our first EP then I left the band for some health issues! In 2009 I returned to Cairo from Sinai and met with Shung, I told him about the idea of AHL SINA & the debut album concept of 'Troops of Pain', we wrote together “as usual” few new songs then we formed a complete line up of 9 members, performed in some festival in Cairo for three times till 2014, the lineup changed a lot during that time, and I felt it wouldn’t be the right step to record the album back then. In 2015 I moved to Germany and it took around two years to find the right members. I found our drummer Shaadie from USA, Stefanie (Violin) & Marcel (Bass guitar) from Germany and of course we all consider them a great gift to AHL SINA, then our professional & talented Producer ‘Joey Jones’ so it was just the right time to record this album.

4. The lyrics on the recording are a concept album, can you tell us a little bit more about the story you cover with your songwriting?

The album has a flow of events in the sequence of the songs. From the track 1 to track 8, the story unfolds of creation, humanity and what we have become. The main focus is on racism and bigotry, which we criticize in our album, and the story of false preachers in various religious institutions.

Track 1, "The Gift", is about the creation of the Earth, how untouched & virgin it was and how harmonious everything was.

Track 2, "Vowed", describes how evil swept through the Earth & how it poisoned generation after generation.

Tracks 3, 4 & 5: As you can see on the album cover artwork, three false preachers are represented watching the Earth burning because of their corrupt preaching, who abused peaceful messages and turned them into hate, separation, war, racism and bigotry.

Track 6, "Beyond the East", describes how the Eastern civilization was thriving and offered humanity enlightenment, science and justice.

Track 7, "No Boundaries - The Fall of Utopia": AHL SINA is destroying racism and bigotry.

Track 8, "Troops of Pain": This is the peaceful message that AHL SINA is aspiring to and hoping for. Troops of pain are those who suffered and died as a result of such hypocrisy, those who bared the consequence of such sinister, conniving and ongoing conspiracy. Our message is a message of peace that sheds light on this perpetual global topic that existed since the beginning of time, passing from one era to the next for centuries till the end of time. Our message is directed against those false preachers from different faiths, who stained what was supposed to be pure, that turned man against his brother till destruction prevailed!

Track 9, "Regret": An instrumental song/outro for which we used a fusion of two different instruments, one from the West and one from the East, hoping that music can unite us all and that’s why we chose this title.

5. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'AHL SINA'?

AHL SINA simply means people of Sinai, but I had a specific reason for choosing this name. Sinai is a very peaceful place for all human beings, cultures and races. People can live there together in peace, no matter where they come from or what they believe.

6. Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the album cover/

The three represented false preachers from the three monotheistic religions! Those who abused any peaceful messages and turned it into hate, separation, war, racism & bigotry! Watching the earth burning is enough proof to their corrupt preaching!

7. All of the band members live in different parts of the world, can you tell us how this works out in the recording process?

The foundation of the line-up was not easy, that’s why we had several changes between 2009 back home in Egypt, when the band started, and 2014, except for the four rooted members! Me, my music mate Shung, the guitarist and the music composer of this album, and the oriental section Ahmed Eskandarny on nay flutes and Amr Zanaty on percussion. After I moved to Germany I was lucky enough to find Shaadie Khoury our drummer. Shaadie is a very well known drummer in the Egyptian scene. He moved to America back in '97
I then found Stefanie Pfaffenzeller from the Frankfurt Radio Symphony to be our violinist. I heard her in a chamber music concert as a soloist and she truly amazed me. I offered her to meet and listen to our album guide. Marcel Hauptmann on bass guitar, I play with Marcel in Thrash Metal Band called WAR AGENDA.

It was a big risk to work on an album between three different continents, ONLINE, and the members would NOT meet! I thought for many nights that it would never work, but I was wrong. It worked better than we ever imagined! I organized everything from Germany. The recording started in Cairo - Egypt, all guitars, nay flutes, percussion and keyboards. Then the studio in Cairo transferred all the recorded materials (stems) to me. Then we recorded the violin and bass guitar here in Germany. I added the violin and bass lines (stems) to the others and transferred them to the USA for the drum recording. Then everything was transferred back to me in Germany to finish the recording process with my vocals. That means: Every musician in the band added his own lines that suit the guide of our album.

8. Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

Yes we received some deals from some labels but we are waiting for the right one!

9. On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of extreme metal?

It’s surprising somehow! We started having fans from the Classic scene as well since they considered the album as a Rock/Metal Opera! So far it’s really good and we are very happy about the feedback! However we still consider ourselves as an underground/new band and we need sometimes to get recognized by the metal scene worldwide.

10. What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are apart of?

Me & Marcel are working together in the new WAR AGENDA Album, Shaadie is doing some new music for  his band ULTRAMUNDANE, Stefanie is in her normal routine as a classic musician in the symphony orchestra, Ahmed is working with Egyptian well-known singers & Amr is doing many workshops and live concerts in the Latin/Jazz scene.

Most importantly, we all started writing the second AHL SINA Album.

11. Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

You never know what the future brings but we are very motivated and hopefully we will some good chances to perform our music in some summer festivals in Europe.

12. What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

AHL SINA's music as I mentioned before has a lot of inspirations to the legacy of the old Egyptian folklore music, when it comes to metal inspirations, we are old school Warriors!

13. What are some of your non musical interests?

Hiking. Reading, Meditation & walking in forests!

14. Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Thank you for interviewing us!

Ash Of Ashes Interview

1. Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?

Skaldir: Hello! The release of our debut album was quite successful, so we're in a good mood and I have already started to write new songs for the follow-up album that hopefully will not take as much time as the debut.
We also wanna start rehearsing for live shows in 2019.

2. A few months back you had released your first album, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style you went for on the recording?

Skaldir: It's a rather melodic metal style, rooting in Black Metal. We call our music “Epic Skaldic Metal”. You could also call it Pagan Metal, Viking Metal or Epic Metal, but since our music has this storyteller vibe, we wanted to have the word “skald” in there, too.

3. You label your music as 'epic skaldic metal', how would you say your music differs from bands that play more of a pagan metal style?

Skaldir: We surely aren't on the “funny” side music-wise. We don't play party or drinking music. We're rather on the path old bands like BATHORY took, when the whole thing started.

4. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you explore with your music?

Skaldir: It's a mixture between mythological, historical as well as tales and legends. We also have four songs on the album which are based on “The Lay of Wayland” – an old Germanic legend found in Anglo-Saxon, German and Scandinavian sources.

5. Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the album cover?

Skaldir: The ship on the ocean scenery fits the title and leaves a lot open for imagination, because you don't see men on it, nor sails.

6. Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding the line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?

Skaldir: We'll see. Personally I like to work as a duo, and like to compose song on my own. It worked really well, so I don't think that for the albums the line-up will be expanded. But I surely want to have our drummer Dennis on the next album as well!

7. Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

Skaldir: We’ve chosen to be without label on purpose. The music industry has changed, and I don't really know what an indie label could offer us. But it's also a lot of work to do everything on your own, so maybe in the future there will be collaborations with labels again.

8. On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

Skaldir: For a newcomer band there is really nothing more we could ask for. The album was extremely well received. We got tons of great reviews and a lot of plays on Spotify. It was like a dream start.

9. What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that both of the band members are a part of?

Morten: I’ve been involved in four bands or projects for quite some time now: THULR, SKARDUS, HERNE and GRAVEHAMMER.
Skaldir: I'm in a few other bands as well. The most known might be ELANE, then I have an Irish Folk Project called OVER THE HILL and a Death Metal band ABSCESSION.

10. Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Skaldir: The style will more or less stay the same. The songs on the debut are maybe a bit too simple, so maybe we will have some longer and more progressive songs in the future. But I'm not sure yet.

11. How would you describe your views on Paganism?

Morten: I guess it would take too long to describe my personal views on paganism in detail here. Also, I think, that religious - or better spiritual matters – should remain something personal, something private as far as ones daily life is concerned. As it is clear from the lyrics, northern European mythology and lore are things I feel a close connection to, yet I do find similarities and very interesting aspects in other “pagan” or animistic beliefs, e.g. in the mythology of the Native Americans of present day USA and Canada. In general, I think that there is far more to explore and to discover than the usual stories of the two Eddas.

12. What are some of your non-musical interests?

Skaldir: I'm a sound engineer, that's my job and also my passion besides music. In my free time I like to be outside hiking.
Morten: I like to be outside in the woods or on the beach and spend time with my friends and family. And I’m interested in history, so this offers lots of chances to visit interesting places.

13. Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Skaldir: As the year is ending and winter is near people naturally think about what happened in their lives this year and what might happens in the next year.
I just wanna say thanks to all the people interested in our music and hope we'll have some new tunes for them next year.

Fenrir Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording of the new album?

In fact, the new album was recorded quite long ago now, but we had to face the departure of our two guitar players, Sylvère and Tristan. It took a moment to find our new musicians, but now we are complete again and our guitarists Alex and Kael are ready to play all our songs, old and new !

2.In 2019, you have a new album coming out, musically how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

This new album is a mix of all that the members of the band have brought : it is louder in the drums parts, with hints to pagan metal, but also closer to traditional folk, with acoustic parts and the use of flutes in addition to the violin in two songs.

3.This is going to be your first release since 2012, can you tell us a little bit more about what has been going on during that time span?

Thanks to our previous album, we had the opportunity to play in many different places and festivals, so we tried to meet new fans and audiences in France and also in Belgium and Switzerland for example. We also took time to work on new songs again and again, in order to be sure they were exactly what we wanted.

4.The new recording is a concept album based on the King Arthur Legends, can you tell us us which stories you brought from these legends into the music?

Most of the new songs refer to the stories about Arthur himself : how he was hidden by Merlin as a child (A red sun rises), how he grew up and discovered his sword Excalibur (The son of Pendragon), how he married Guinevere (Camelot) and met Lancelot for the first time (La dame du lac), how he was killed by his son in battle (Mordred)... But we also created songs about other characters of the legends : Perceval, Gawain, Morgan.

5.I know that the bands name came from 'Norse Mythology', can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in Paganism?

This interest comes firstly from our interest for history of the Middle Ages (that was my major at university) and from our love for mythology and old legends. We are into all kinds of legends (Celtic, Norse, Scottish...) but what is really fascinating in Norse Mythology and Paganism is that in fact we know very little about it, because these people did not write books, and stories about it were written later, with a different point of view. So it remains very mysterious !

6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

This artwork, created by talented Edouard Noisette, alludes to the story of the Fisher king : Perceval meets the old man who takes him in a boat to his castle where he will see the Grail, but will not dare to ask anything about this marvellous object.

7.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

I think our best shows are often festival ones, when we discover a new audience that did not know us before, for example at Cidre&Dragon in Normandy. But shows in small pubs, close to the fans, are also  really enjoyable ! On stage we wear medieval fantasy outfits and try to take the audience with us on a journey in old legends, with energy or melancholy, depending on the songs.

8.Do you have any touring or show plans once the new album is released?

The shows are being prepared right now so we cannot announce a tour yet, but it will come soon ! And we are still looking for shows to complete the tour.

9.The new album is self released, would the band be interested in working with another label again in the future?

We are open to any proposal of a label, but it depends on the conditions !

10.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of folk metal?

We were really surprised to discover that people loved our music as far as in Japan or South America. As a matter of fact, there are not so many folk metal fans in France. Of course, fans of screamed vocals only may not enjoy our music that much, but we can move a rather large range of metalheads !

11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Our new guitar players will bring something new by writing some of the new songs. But we also want to keep our personal sound and atmosphere.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

We have influences of bands such as Ensiferum or Amon Amarth for the music, but my singing has been more inspired by folk singers such as Loreena MacKennitt or bands like Faun. And the violin is more influenced by Irish trad fiddle. Personally I listen nowadays to varied styles of music, and I enjoy metal opera projects such as Ayreon.

13.What are some of your non musical interests? I practice medieval and folk dances, and medieval historical reenactment. I also read a lot of Heroic fantasy novels.

14.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts? Thanks for your questions, it is always a pleasure to expose our universe and explain our music !

Middle  eastern  style  instruments  start  off  the  album  and  also  mix  into  the  heavier  sections  of  the  music  along  with  a  good  amount  of  orchestra  and  symphonic  elements.  A  great  amount  of  melody  can  also  be  heard  in  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  death  metal  growls.

When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  black  metal  influence.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  some  clean  vocals  being  added  into  some  parts  of  the  music.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Downcast  Twilight  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  melodic  black,  death  and  folk  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Snarling  Chaos"  "Wrath  Of  The  Anunnaki"  "Elder  Terrors  of The  Deep"  and  "Ereshkigal's  Throne".  8/5out  of  10.

Dyrnwyn Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
We are a Pagan Folk Metal band based in Rome, a bunch of friends with two common passions, Roman history and music.

2.Recently you have released your first full length, musically how does it differ from your previous ep and demo?
It is another world completely.  In the mean time as we were composing Sic Transit Gloria Mundi we grew up a lot both as musicians and as people. We learn to communicate and understand each other and this new found complicity and harmony between the members of the band brought us this album and we cannot be more proud of it!

3.Your lyrics cover Paganism and Ancient Roman History, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in these subjects?
We believe that if someone decide to play and compose folk metal he has to talk about his folkloric history and what greater history if not the one about Rome for us that were born and grew up here in the eternal city.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Dyrnwyn'?
This one is actually kind of funny story. We were at the beginning of our musical journey and the direction to take was really blurred and unsure. We all came from different music backgrounds and each of the name we picked represented more ourselves as single people then the band. We fought and we discussed for quiet a few days until exhausted we decided that the first who will propose a name, whatever it would have been, in the next few hours would be the official name. Let’s say that
we’re happy it wasn’t something silly ahahah Dyrnwyn is one of the thirteen tresure of England. Is a black sword which when wielded by a pure of heart will harness the power of fire to his favour but when wielded by someone unworthy it will burn him to ashes.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more abut the artwork that is presented on the album cover?
The name of the album is Sic Transit Gloria Mundi that translated it would be “and that’s how the glory of the world disappeared” . Based on this concept we worked with Gianmarco Colalongo in order to represent it on paper and we can all see the result of this process.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
The best show we did until now  are definitely the one with our brothers Atavicus in Rome and in Pescara. The atmosphere and the bond of friendship that binds us just made the concerts , pre, during and post a great experience all around.

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the new album?
Not yet but we’re starting to plan an italian tour really soon followed by some dates in europe, germany, swiss, austria etc.

8.The new album was released on 'Soundage Productions', how did you get in contact with this label?
Our bassist and founding member ,Ivan Cenerini , has a remarkable cd collection and some of them have been bought through the soundage distr

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your newer music by fans of pagan and folk metal?
It has been really really good. We’ve received some first reviews and are extremely good  8,5/10, plus everyone who listen to the album really enjoys it and send us compliments about it.

10.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?
Almost all of the band members are involved with other projects: Alessandro Mancini our guitarist and composer is currently on board of other two different projects , Drakens Orden (MelodicDeath) with whom is going to release a full lenght this month  and DragonhammeR (Power Metal) who recruited him as live guitarist.
Ivan Coppola our drummer is part of Ulfhednar  (Black Metal) with whom is taking part in a lot of concert here in Italy. The new found vocalist Thierry Vaccher is the singer of Manner (industrial metal) and Ivan Cenerini and Michelangelo Iacovella as well as Mauro Ricotta (former guitar) are composing for an original Atmospheric Black Metal project call AITA.

11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
A balanced mix between Black Metal, Atmospheric Black Metal and Classic Pagan Folk .

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Here we need to make a brief list: Falkenbach, Manegarm, Moonsorrow, Draugr, Svartsot, Kawir, Istapp, Saor, Romuvos, Skyforger etc etc…
Nowadays they are pretty much the same with some occasional discoveries but in the same field as the one mentioned before.

13.What are some of your non musical interests?
Kick boxing, MMA, Historical re-enacment, D&D, Hiking, Trekking in nature and DRINKING ahahahah

14.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
We hope to be able to bring this album everywhere and play as many live show as possible especially out of italy. But to do so we need to ask everyone of you a favor, be curious of new music, give a chance to small names because they might surprise you and if you can, support them as you can. We play and compose our music for all of you out there because we want to connect with you in some way, conveying our emotion and ourselves into our songs and nothing give us more happiness then knowing that you’re there headbanging in your car or at home or down the stage listening to us!
