Mudbath/Corrado Zeller/Lost Pilgrims Records/2015 CD Review

Mudbath  are  a  band  from  France  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black  metal,  sludge,  doom  and  hardcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  album  "Corrado  Zeller"  which  will  be  released  in  2015  by  Lost  Pilgrims  Records.

A  very  dark  drone  done  by  synths  starts  off  the  album  before  getting  more  distorted  and  after  a  minute  the  music  goes  into  more  of  a  heavy  sludge/doom  metal  direction  and  the  music  starts  to  add  in  high  pitched  screams  that  are  very  heavily  black  metal  influenced  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

At  times  melodies  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  all  3  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  on  the  second  track  the  music  starts  to  speed  up  a  bit  along  with  some  blast  beats  and  black  metal  style  tremolo  picking  while  also  keeping  around  the  slower  parts  and  bringing  in  elements  of  hardcore and  when  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  bring  a  melodic  post  metal  feeling  to  the  recording.

Mudbath  plays  a  very  slow,  dark  and  heavy  sludge/doom  metal  sound  that  also  brings  in  elements  of  black  metal,  hardcore  and  post  metal  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sound s very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  depressive  themes.

In  my  opinion  Mudbath  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black  metal,  sludge,  doom  and  hardcore  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Shrim  Alternative  Healing  Center".  8  out  of  10.

Hombre Malo/Persistent Murmur Of Words And Wrath/Disciplin Media/2014 CD Review

Hombre  Malo  are  a  band  from  Norway  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black  metal,  sludge  and  hardcore  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  album  "Persistent  Murmur  Of  Words  And  Wrath"  which  was  released  by  Disciplin  Media.

A  very  dark  and  melodic  sludge  metal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  aggressive  vocals  a  few  seconds  later  that  also  use  some  rough  sounding  melodies  as  well  as  a  great  amount  of  high  pitched  screams  along  with  some  spoken  word  parts  and  samples   being  utilized  at  times  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  bringing  in  a  more  melodic  side  of  noise  rock.

You  can  hear  a  heavy  influence  from  post  hardcore  in  the  bands  musical  sound  along  with  the  heaviness  of  doom  metal  and  after  awhile  blast  beats  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  as  the  album  progresses  you  can  hear  more  of  a  black  metal  style  being  mixed  in  the  bands  musical  sound  as  well  as  a  great  amount  of  punk  rock  style  energy  and  the  band  also  uses  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

A  good  portion  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  they  also  add  times  bring  in  the  rawness  of  crustcore  and  a  good  portion  of  the  music  has  a  90's  feeling  to  them  while  the  black  metal influence  updates  the  music  for  the  modern  day  and  every  track  has  a  sound  of  its  own  while  you  can  still  tell  that  it  is  the  same  band  playing  them  all.

Hombre  Malo  plays  a  style  that  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  sludge,  punk  and  noise  rock  from t he  90's  era  while  also  mixing  it  in  with  the  energy  and  grimness  of  black  metal  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  a  mixture  of  both  Norwegian  and  English  and  cover  dark  and  angry  themes.

In  my  opinion  Hombre  Malo  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black  metal,  sludge  and  hardcore  punk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Crosses  And  Marching  Feet"  "Reaching  the  Shore"  and  "Deathbed  Confession".  8  out  of  10.

Teethgrinder/Hellbound/EveryDayHate/2014 7 Inch Review

Teethgrinder  are  a  band  from  the  Netherlands  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  death  metal,  power violence  and  grindcore  with  touches  of  crust, hardcore,  post  metal,  drone  and  stoner  rock  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  7  Inch  "Hellhound"  which  was  released  by  EveryDayHate.

Spoken  word  samples  start  off  the  ep  along  with  some  heavy  distortion  before  the  music  goes  into  a  fast  and  brutal  grindcore  direction  along  with  some  high  pitched  screams,  growls  and  crust  style  shouts  as  well  as  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  after  a  minute  the  band  slows  down  a  bit  and  you  can  hear  some  elements  of  doom  metal  in  their  musical  sound.

On  the  later  tracks  you  can  really  start  hearing  the  blackened  death  metal  influence  kick  in  and  the  band  also  brings  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  on  the  third  track  sludge  and  stoner  metal  elements  find  their  way  into  the  bands  musical  style  and  their  last  song shows  off  some  epic  black  metal  style  riffing.

Teethgrinder  combine  a  variety  of  many  different  extreme  metal  and  hardcore  genres  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  where  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  violent  themes.

In  my  opinion  Teethgrinder  are  a  very  great  soundign  mixture  of  black  metal,  death,  stoner,  grindcore  and  power  violence  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Hellbound"  and  "187".  8  out  of  10.

Anti Ritual Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?

Well, right now were waiting for the record to come out and preparing for playing some shows to support it and make our existence known to people.

2.You have a new ep coming out towards the end of April, can you tell us a little bit more about your musical sound?

Our sound is a natural emanation of our collective creative input. We all bring something different to the table, as we all have a history in other bands that are quite diverse. The sound is basically what naturally emerges when you put the four of us in a room with instruments.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

The lyrics are a way of tackling our frustration with contemporary culture and politics. The lyrics are tied very much to the sound of the music, as the music is a vessel for the lyrical themes and vice versa.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Anti Ritual'

The idea was that we wanted to have a different take on being in a band. Having all been so before, we just wanted to steer clear of the whole social media circus for example. We didn’t want the hassle of creating and maintaining a profile on, say, Facebook. As such we kept the whole project a secret until the record was recorded and ready for streaming. Also the name expresses our general feeling of being in opposition to a lot of things, and us playing and singing is our act of getting out the anger of frustration.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

We still have our debut show to look forward to, but there’s a few things in the works at this point.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

Yes, but so far there is still a few more pieces that need to fall in to place before we’re ready to talk about them.

7.Your ep is going to be released as a joint effort between Indisciplinarian and Vendetta Records, can you tell us a little bit more about these labels?

Well, Indisciplinarian is a label run by our drummer and guitarist focusing on heavy and aggressive music on vinyl. Vendetta is a well renowned label from Berlin. They have a quite impressive stable of bands that we are honored to be a part of, such as Thou, Salome, Ash Borer, Whitehorse and the list goes on. If you don’t know any of these labels, get on it now!

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of underground metal and hardcore?

So far we have received a handful of reviews of our EP and they’ve been quite positive. Being involved in the process of writing and recording a record can make it real hard for you do look at it objectively, so it feels amazing to see all the positive feedback.

9.When can we expect a full length album and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

As for a full length, only time will tell. We are all quite busy people, but let’s just say that recording this record has made us want more and assured us that this is not the end of Anti Ritual. As to where we are heading musically in the future, I’d say along the same path were on now. It seems to work out for us.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
We are four individuals who are all musicnerds, so I can only speak for myself. These days, I’m really into a lot of Canadian and American black metal such as Délétère, Sanctuire, Hæthen, Lluvia, Bael Kultus, Odz Manouk, Xothist the whole Rhinocervs thing and pretty much anything put out by the incredible label Fallen Empire Records.

11.What are some of your non musical interests?

I work as a librarian, so obviously literature has always played a huge part in my life. Apart from that Im a huge musicnerd and record collector, so that, and politics takes up a lot of my time.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Not much besides thanking you for taking an interest in Anti Ritual. All the best.

Anti Ritual/Self Titled/Indisciplinarian/2014 EP Review

Anti  Ritual  are  a  band  from  Denmark  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black  metal,  sludge  and  hardcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2014  ep  which  will  be  released  by  Indisciplinarian.

A  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  some  sludge  style  vocals  being  mixed  in  with  a  blackened  metal  sound  along  with  brutal  blast  beats  and  the  slower  sections  have  a  great  amount  of  hardcore  influences.

When  the  other  tracks  kick  in  more  crust  and  punk  rock  influences  are  added  in  along  with  a  more  dark  style  of  post  hardcore  and  on  some  of  the  later  tracks  the  band  starts  utilizing  a  small  amount  of  melody  and  the  tracks  are  all  very  short  with  no  solos  or  leads  being utilized  on  any  of  the  tracks.

Anti  Ritual  have  a  great  balance between  darkness  and  energy  with  their  blackened  hardcore sludge  metal  sound  along  with  a  very  dark  and  heavy  production  and  lyrics  that  criticize  the  mainstream  structures  of  society.

In  my  opinion  Anti  Ritual  are  a  very  decent  sounding  mixture  of  black  metal,  sludge  and  hardcore  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Ideals  To  The  Fire"  and  "Blame  the  Victim".  7/5  out  of  10.

Hemelbestormer Interview

HEMELBESTORMER.

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
Hemelbestormer is a four piece doom/sludge/drone-band from Limburg, Belgium with current and former members of Gorath, Serpentcult, Ender, Doganov and Hedonist. We started playing together somewhere in 2011 and are about to release our debut split with Vanessa Van Basten through Consouling Sounds. It's not the typical everyday split, but rather a cooperation where both bands create one lengthy track of forty minutes.

2.According to the bio the band formed out of the ashes of Gorath, what was the decision behind ending that band and starting this one?
The bio is not entirely correct. In fact, the band was formed by Jo (guitars) and Kevin (bass, visuals), Filip and myself joined in a later stadium, Filip being the latest addition. The main reason Filip put Gorath to rest was disappointment. Not in the music or the reception, but in almost everything else. There were a lot of expectations, but due to all kinds of external factors, he just couldn't live up to them. So he thought it was better to simply end the story at a peak instead of letting it drag on. Their music was also evolving away from their black metalroots, since "The Chronicles Of Khiliasmos" has more in common with Hemelbestormer than with Goraths other albums. He is still very proud of all the things he did with Gorath, but it's time to move on and explore different areas.

3,How would you describe your musical sound?
We incorporate all kinds of influences in our sound, ranging from atmospherical ambient and postrock/metal to devastating doom/sludge and even black metal. Bands like Neurosis, Cult Of Luna, Year Of No Light, Mogwai, Rosetta, Amen Ra and Isis all left their mark on our sound, but we try to do our own thing instead of merely copying the work of others. Atmosphere and emotions are equally important as heaviness and aggression and with each composition we try to expand our horizons. Music should be creative and limitless, but a certain level of coherence is also essential.

4.Can you tell us a little bit more about the themes and concepts you bring out with your music?
There's not really a fixed theme or concept, but things like the infinity of space, natural and scientific phenomena, cataclysmic events and the vastness of oceans are subjects that serve as inspiration. Since there are no vocals or lyrics, we have to express certain feelings and emotions mainly through music and this is a real challenge. Artwork and visuals during live shows are there to strengthen these emotions and therefore we put a lot of time, care and effort in creating them. Our bassplayer Kevin is a professional graphic designer and I don't have to tell you that it is a gift of God having someone with his talents in the band.

5.On the split the music was all instrumental are you planning on using vocals in the future?
For the moment, we are quite happy with being an instrumental outfit, but we don't rule out the use of vocals in the future. We just don't want to use them just for the sake of having vocals. Not only should they fit the music, they will have to add an extra dimension. Otherwise, we don't see the point.

6.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Hemelbestormer'?
A "Hemelbestormer", a Dutch word that can be translated as "stormer of heaven", is a person with revolutionary thoughts and ideas, someone who thinks outside the box and is not afraid to try new things. Within the band, we can all relate to this way of thinking when we create music.

7.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?
At this very moment, we haven't played a single show yet, but we are planning to do so very soon. We are going for the total package: an overwhelming sound, captivating visuals and a dark, gloomy atmosphere. There will be no breaks and no interaction with the audience, just a forty-five minute dive into the world of Hemelbestormer. We will try to make each show an experience you won't easily forget.

8.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
On February 22nd, we'll have our debut performance in Tessenderlo where we shall introduce the band to the public. Treha Sektori, a very interesting and haunting ambient/drone-act from Paris is joining us at this event. Furthermore, we will support Esoteric in Brussels together with Procession, Marche Funèbre, Indesinence and Fading Bliss on April 26th and on May 23rd we will share the stage with the mighty Conan in Diksmuide. We are currently working on some more shows, both domestic and abroad, but we can't give you any details yet.

9.Recently you put out a split with Vanessa Van Basten, what are your thoughts on the other band that participated in the recording?
We haven't met the guys of VVB personally and I don't really know their albums, but I do like their part of the album. Musically, it's not entirely something I listen to on a daily basis, but I love their creativity and their "limitless" approach. Their music is a bit different, but I think the combination worked out fine.

10.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of more underground genres?
Since the album in not released, we haven't read many reviews yet. The ones we did get were all very good. We did, however, get a lot of positive response to the video we made for our part of the split, a song called "Portal To The Universe". Our name seems to be buzzing a bit in the scene. Even now, with no release or live experience, some people seem to be blown away by our stuff and they are really spreading the word. We get very cool and supportive messages from time to time and we are looking into some very interesting stuff for the future.

11.When can we expect a full length and what direction will it be in music wise?
We have absolutely no idea when we will record a full length, but we have several songs that are fully finished and a whole bunch of ideas for some others. It's all in the vein of "Portal To The Universe", but with some twists here and there. Nothing more boring than writing the same song over and over again, right? Variation is very important, not only for the listener, but also for ourselves.

12.What are you listening to nowadays?
I'm a very eclectic listener. I'm not limiting myself to one particular style or genre, because if you do that you miss a lot of great music. There's so much cool stuff out there waiting to be discovered, but most of it doesn't get the recognition it deserves. So apart from the "classics" and the bands I grew up with, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Slayer, Motörhead, Led Zeppelin and so on, I'm always keen on discovering something new. Some more recent bands I enjoy are High On Fire, Rival Sons, Kvelertak, Ghost, Tombs and  I can also recommend the latest records of In Solitude, Alcest, ASG and Jex Thoth. This is of course a very short and incomplete list! Recently Filip introduced me to bands like Celeste, Mgla, Code, Regarde Les Hommes Tomber and Svartidaudi and I really love the approach and mood of these acts. To return the favor, I gave him some records of Yob, Electric Wizard, Sleep and Conan and he seems to love it. As for non-metal stuff, Depeche Mode, Bohren & Der Cub Of Gore, Emily Jane White, Mark Lanegan, Ozric Tentacles, The Doors, Roky Erickson and Pink Floyd are among my favorites.

13.Do you have any non musical interests?
I'm an avid reader and a big movie fan. Again, I don't limit myself to one specific style, because that's just silly. If it's a good story with interesting characters and a compelling setting, the style doesn't matter at all. Some works I recently read include the "A Song Of Ice And Fire"-cycle by George R.R. Martinn "Metro 2033" by Dimitri Glukhovsky, "Haunted" by Chuck Palahniuk and "The First Law"-trilogy by Joe Abercrombie. Cool movies and series you definitely should check out are "The Dark Knight"-trilogy, ", "Inception", "Argo",  "Drive", "Breaking Bad", "The Walking Dead", "Game Of Thrones" and "American Horror Story".

14.Before we wrap up this interview. do you have any final words or thoughts?
Hemelbestormer is more than just music. Even though we're an instrumental band. Our tracks need time. They need efforts to be embraced and understood. Slowly their darkness will take part of you. Today it's hard to focus on something which isn't fast, hard and cheap, like anything seems to be in our western lives. But for one time, give up that awfully thought, relax and open the portal to the universe. Thank you.

Hemelbestormer/Vanessa Van Basten/Consouling Sounds/2014 Split EP Review

This  is  a  review of  a  split  ep  between Belgium's Hemelbestormer  and  Italy's  Vanessa  Van  Basten  which  was  released  by  Consouling  Sounds  in  the  year  of  2014  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Hemelbestormer  a  band  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black metal,  sludge,  hardcore  and  post  rock.

Their  side  of  the  ep  starts  off  with  drones  and  drums  as  well  as  ambient  elements  before  adding  in  slow  doom  metal  riffs  as  well  as  elements  of  post  rock  and  they  stick  to  an  instrumental  and  improv  style  approach  on  the  songs  they  bring  to  the  recording  as  well  as  bringing  in  black  metal  influences  and  melody  and  on  a  couple  of  songs  they team  up  with  Vanessa Van Basten  and  the  stuff  they  do  together  is  more  ambient  drone  based  along  with  elements  of  noise  and  experimental  and  after  awhile  they  bring  in  acoustic  guitars.

Song  themes  seem  to  follow  a  concept,  while  the  production  has  a  very  strong,  powerful  and  heavy  sound  with  most  of  their  songs  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

In  my  opinion  Hemelbestormer  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of   black  metal,  sludge,  hardcore  and  post  rock  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Omega".

Next  up  is  Vanessa Van Basten  a  band  that  plays  a  mixture  of  post  rock  and  metal  with  elements  of  black  metal  and  sludge.

There  side  of  the  split  begins  with  post  rock  style  guitars  before  getting  heavier  and  adding  in  more  darker  and  metal  elements  along  with  a  good  amount  of  melody  and  after  awhile  you  can  hear  influences  from  sludge,  black  metal  and  90's  alternative  rock  before  adding  in  clean  singing  shoegaze  style  vocals  as  well  as  a  small  amount  of  spoken  word  parts  and  aggressive  screams.

Song  lyrics  cover  poetic  themes,  while  the  production  has  a  very  strong,  powerful  and  heavy  sound  to  it.

In  my  opinion  Vanessa Van Basten  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  post  metal  and  rock  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Odyssey  Song".

In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  post  metal.  8/5  out  of  10.

Children Of God/Live At Que Seta/2012 Live EP Review

This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Children  Of  God  which  continues  their  mixture  of  black  metal,  doom  and  hardcore  with  the  ep  being recorded  live  and  self  released  in  2012  and  called  "Live  At  Que  Sera".

The  ep  starts  out  with  distorted  amp  sounds  and  drones  and  a  few  seconds  alter  heavy  doom  metal  guitar  riffs  make  their  way  into  the  music  and  a  minute  later  aggressive  sounding  hardcore/sludge  screams  start  to  kick  in  and  after  a  few  songs  the  band  starts  going  into  a  faster  direction  and  adding  in  blast  beats  and  crust  influences  while  not  staying  away  from  the doom  and  drone  elements  of  the  earlier  songs  and  halfway  through  the  ep  the  bass  guitars  get  more  powerful  sounding.

You  can  tell  that  the  doom  metal  influences  are  more  dominant  on  this  ep  than  they  where  on  the  demo  and  the  band  has  a  very  great  live  sound  and  would  be  the  perfect  band  to  play  at  any  DIY  warehouse  gig  and  having  the  audience  really  getting  behind  their  music.

Song  lyrics  cover  dark,  hateful  and  everyday  themes,  while  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  heavy  sound  where  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording  as  well  as  all  of  the  songs  being  recorded  live.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Children  Of  god  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blackened  sludge  and  hardcore,  you  should  check out  this  live  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "30  Seconds  Of  Blind  Rage"  and  "Desolate".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

Children Of God/Demo 2009 Review

Children  Of  God  are  a  band  from  Los  Angeles,  California  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black  metal,  doom  and  hardcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2009  demo.

The  demo  starts  out  with  some  amp  noise  before  adding  in  slow,  heavy  and  dark  sounding  guitar  riffs  as  well  as  some  spoken  word  samples  and  then  the  music  goers  into  a  faster  direction  along  with  some  blast  beats  and  hardcore  punk  style  screams  and  the  band  also  keeps  around  the  slower  and  doomier  material  around  and  mixes  it  with  their  faster  stuff.

This  demo  combines influences from  black  metal,  doom  metal  and hardcore  punk  while  concentrating  more  on  the  doom  and  punk  elements  to  create  their  own  sound  and  the  music  is  very  raw,  dark  and  heavy  sounding.

Song  lyrics  cover  hateful  and  everyday  themes,  while  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  heavy  sound  with  the  bass  guitars  being  mixed  down  low  in  the  mix.

In  my  opinion  Children  Of  God  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black  metal,  doom  and  hardcore  punk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Not  One  More  Fucking  Anthem".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

Towering Filth Interview

1. Can you give us an introduction to the band for people that will be hearing of you for the first time?
1. My name is Matthew and Towering Filth is music I wrote and recorded all by myself.

2.How would you describe your musical sound?
2. I would say stark and pissed, the theme is the music is oppression.

3.Can you tell us a little bit more about the lyrics that you write for the band?
3. I write lyrics in a stream of conscious style. Most of them carry a thin narrative and overall theme.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Towering Filth'?
4. My original idea was Towering Flesh but I realized that was a Pig Destroyer song. I didn’t want to be one of those bands named after another bands song so I changed it. Also Towering Filth is significant because I do a lot of “writing for the trash can” where I just write all the time even though most of it isn’t very good.

5.According to the Metal Archives page this band is solo in the studio, are you interested in working with a full band on future releases?
5. Absolutely, I tried it a few times but people keep wanting to put there own ideas on it, which can be cool, but most of the time it’s awful. I like working alone to keep things cohesive.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
6. We only played 3 as a full band and the first one was probably the best.

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
7. Nope, just working on this next record.

8.Recently you did a Germs cover, what was the decision behind during your own version of one of their songs?
8. I watched a documentary about the BYO and the early days of the record label. That song was in the documentary and caught my attention. I also dug it because it’s outside of my style.

9.The last album came out on Monolithic Records, can you tell us a little bit more about this label?
9. It came about through Heavy Blog is Heavy digging my original demo. It’s more of a distribution deal since I recorded the record myself. I don’t hear from them very often.

10.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your recordings and stage performances by fans of underground music?
10. The online response has been very slow. The music takes some patience to get into.

11.What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
11. Faster, the earlier demos were slow because I was pretty awful at guitar. The new stuff is fast and a bit more technical.

12.What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
12. Some of my influences are The Abominable Iron Sloth, Admiral Angry, Killing Joke, Burn Everything, Enabler, Gaza, Pariso, Catherine Wheel, and Unsane.
Recently I’ve been listening to Touche Amore, Code Orange Kids, Intronaut, Cedron, letlive, Coilguns, Gorguts, and Ulcerate.

13.Outside of music what are some of your interests?
13. I’m a bartender and a recording engineer.

14.Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
14. Thanks for taking the time to check out the music. My next release will be called Bask and is a decent percentage written.

Towering Filth/Spite House/2012 Single Review

This  is  a  review  of  another  single  from  Towering  Filth  which  was  released  in  2012  and  continues  their  mixture  of  black  metal,  sludge  and  hardcore  wit  the  recording  being  self  released  in  2012  and  called  "Spite  House".

The  single  starts  off  with  some  powerful  sounding  bass  guitars  and  drums  before  going  into  some  heavy  sludge/doom  metal  guitar  riffs  along  with  some  blackened  hardcore  screams  and  then  the  music  goes  into  a  more  atmospheric  and  melodic  direction  while  also  remaining  heavy  all  at  the  same  time.

Once  the  single  goes  into  the  second  song  it  speeds  up  in  the  beginning  and  brings  in  a  lot  more  punk  and  hardcore  influences  as  well  as  mixing  in  some  spoken  word  parts  and  the  band  retains  their  heavy  doom/sludge  metal  sound.

Song  lyrics  cover  dark  themes,  while  the  production  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  heavy  and  dark  sound  for  being  a  self  released  recording  where  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  single.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Towering  Filth  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  blackened  sludge  metal/hardcore,  you  should  check  out  this  single.  HIGHLY  RECOMMENDED.

Towering Filth/As Well As You Should/2012 Single Review

Towering  Filth  are  a  band  from  St.  Loius,  Missouri  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black  metal,  sludge  and  hardcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2012  single  "As  Well  As  You  Should".

The  single  starts  out  with  some  dark  and  heavy  sounding  guitar  riffs  as  well  as  some  drums  being  adding  in  screams  that  combine  black  metal  and  hardcore  together  and  the  music  gets  heavier  along  with  a  mixture  of  doom  metal  and  sludge  influences  and  as  time  goes  on  by  the  music  starts  invoking  a  dark  atmosphere  and  the  bass  guitars  get  even  more  powerful  and  heavy  sounding.

On  the  b-side  of  the  recording  the  band  covers  "Lexican  Devil"  from t he  Germs  and  they  add  there  own  twist  to  this  cover  version  and  add  in  modern  day  hardcore  punk  with  old  school  punk  rock  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.

Song  lyrics  cover  dark  themes,  while  the  production  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  heavy  and  dark  sound  for  being  a  self  released  recording  and  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  single.

In  my  opinion  Towering  Filth  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black  metal,  sludge  and  hardcore  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED.

Serpent Eater Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
All of us did play or still play in other bands and projects which focused on extreme music. However, we all felt, that there is something, that wanted and needed to be released and urged all of us, to help. It is something dark, vile and savage. So, obviously, it was the Serpent Eater, who wanted us to come together in late 2011/early 2012 to be his messengers. Before the Serpent Eater approached us, we hardly knew each other.

2.How would you describe the musical sound that is present on the album?
Well, the Serpent Eater commanded us, to create aggressive, gloomy and dark music, to support his messages. So, in order to fulfill his will, we mixed up everything that helped us, to do so. Regardless, what musical genre or type of this would be, as long as the sounds and riffs, pleased the Serpent Eater.

3.Can you tell us a little bit more about your song lyrics?
Here, the Serpent Eater is quite clear. Lyricwise, he wants us to let the people know, how he is influencing, pressuring and deforming the mental health and sanity of the souls of all of us, as he takes over our world and reality…

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name Serpent Eater?
It was not our idea and it is not about us to question this…. The Serpent Eater is an entity of grant anger an little patience. But don’t you worry, you will learn more about him, soon.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
As all our shows are services to worship the Serpent Eater, it would not be wise, to name one of these rituals and masses as the most outstanding. He forces us to always give the best we can.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
We’re about to slip onto some billings of festivals such as the Slow End Festival in Eindhoven, Alerta Deathfest in Hannover and the St. Helena Doom Fest in Munich in May 2014. The Serpent Eater wants us to reach as much people and future servants, as possible…so there will be more soon.

7.The new album came out on Alerta Antifacista Records, do you few this label has done a lot to get your name out there/
Alerta Antifascista  Records is the right platform to the Serpent Eater, as he wants  to recruit his first servants from a public and audience, who is more or less ready and willing  open themselves to him…

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black, doom and sludge metal/
Well, although the first real Album “Hyena” will only be released on December 15, 2013, the feedback on ‘Hyena on worldwide level is surprisingly good. So far, all reviews we read,  are awesome. Well, actually, it is not that surprising, as we are supported by a supernatural  force….

9.What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
Wherever the Serpent Eater may lead us to, we will follow. At the moment, it is hard to foresee, in which musical direction we will be led… Anyway, we’re quite sure, that it will not be some happy stuff, as the Serpent Eater dislikes the sunnysides…

10.What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
As mentioned above, we do listen to merely music to gather influences in order to fulfill the sinister will of the Serpent Eater. So the majority of stuff we listen to ranges from Death and black metal to (post) hardcore, crust, heavy and dark 70s rock

11.Outside of music what are some of your interests?
There is little room left to do something else, if you are subject to the Serpent Eater. Well, we do have several addictions, as we need to cope with this situation.

12.Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
You better be scared, as the Serpent Eater is coming for you….
