Doom Rot Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?

Before this project I played in many bands. But my problem of communicating with people made itself felt. Six months ago I started playing music in my home Studio. I had the idea to start a one man project. I originally planned to play Groove/Death Metal. But when I started writing music, there were a lot of Black Metal elements in it. I really liked how it all blends and I decided to act. And so the story of my project began.

2.Can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style you have went for on your recordings so far?

I'm a big fan of Swedish school of Melodic Death Metal and Black Metal. I liked the way they blends, I also liked the addition of Groove elements. Groove riffs that "rocks", melancholy of Melodic Death Metal, anger and darkness of Black Metal. In addition, I listen to a lot of different music and each in its own way influenced all this.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you explore with your music?

Of course death and destruction! (Joke.) In the lyrics most often I write about my misanthropy, human lust, the loss of people that were close to me, and about feelings of loneliness. Also sometimes about the mythical and mystical themes. In the lyrics I most often write "as is", without hidden meanings. I want to communicate my thoughts and feelings to the audience more clearly.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Doom Rot'/

The meaning of the most banal. Doom represents the destructive activities of people. Rot - that people are just soulless meat that will die and rot. And I'm also a fan of game Doom.

5.With this project you record everything by yourself, are you open to working with other musicians or do you prefer to work solo?

I am ready to work with other people in the recording and production of other musicians. I have two dreams and one of them is to work with sound and help others with it. I get wild pleasure from it, ready to sit in the Studio all day and night. As part of my project, I don't want to work with anyone. It is only mine and only I can Express my thoughts correctly.

6.You have also done an 'Immortal' cover, what was the decision behind doing your own version of one of their songs?

Immortal once pushed me to make music alone. I was very inspired by them. And just recently, I decided to cover the song "Tyrants", thereby paying tribute to them. If it wasn't for them, maybe my project wouldn't have happened.

7.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

You know, before I didn't see the point in subscribing to the label, because I could solve all my problems and questions myself. But now I'm open to suggestions. I have more work, less time to do other things. For example: to make CDs, organize concerts and so on. It's getting harder to do everything alone. So yeah, I wouldn't mind working with someone on that.

8.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of extreme metal?

Honestly, I was surprised how well people perceived my work. I haven't heard any negative reviews yet, which is strange nowadays. I am eternally grateful to all of them, I wish them only good from the bottom of my heart.

9.Where do you see yourself heading into as a musician during the future?

I rush from one thought to another, but it would be a pleasure for me to sit in the Studio and work with my music, to work with other musicians. Engage in sound engineering. Sometimes to give concerts. I just want to make music as much, as good, and as long as possible. I'll do it until I die.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays/

From Black Metal: Immortal, Burzum, Darkthrone, Watain. Of Melodic/Death Metal: Death, In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, The Duskfall, At The Gates, Insomnium, Amon Amarth, Helltrain. From Groove/Death: Feared, Machine Head, DevilDriver. Currently I often listen to Sylosis, In Flames, Celldweller, The Prodigy, Strapping Young Lad, Hypocrisy, Children Of Bodom. So many things, I am always with music.

11.What are some of your non musical interests?

I love to take pictures, to cook, I also love computer games. But all this is given little time due to the heavy workload.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Yes. Thank you very much for the interview!

Doom Rot/Territory Of Solitude/2019 Single Review

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Russia's  Doom  Rot  which  continues  his  melodic  mixture  of  black,  doom,  death  and  groove  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2019  single   "Territory  Of  Solitude".

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  single  along  with  some  whispered  vocals  a  few  seconds  alter  which  also  evolve  into  blackened  screams  once  the  music  goes  into  a  heavier  direction.  The  riffs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  The  music  also  adds  in  elements  of  death,  doom  and  groove  metal  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  The  second  track  is  a  cover  of  Immortal's  "Tyrants"  and  all  of  the  music  sticks  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction.

  On  this  recording  Doom  Rot  remains  true  to  his  melodic  mixture  of   black,  doom,  death  and  groove  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  human  isolation,  fear,  loss  and  cruelty  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Doom  Rot  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  melodic  black,  doom,  death  and  groove  emtal,  you  should  check  out  this  single.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Territory  Of  Solitude".  8  out  of  10.

Doom Rot/Portrait Of A Deadman/2019 Full Length Review

  Doom  Rot  are  a  solo  project  from  Russia  that  plays  a  melodic  mixture  of  black,  doom,  death  and  groove  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2019  album  Portrait  Of  A  Deadman".

  A  very  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  aggressive  blackened  metal  screams  a  few  seconds  later.  Elements  of  groove  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  you  can  also  hear  some  doom  metal  influences  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs.

  A  lot of  the  music  also  shows  an  influence  of  melodic  death  metal   while  the  riffs  also  utilize  a  great  amount  of  melody.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  a  couple  of  tracks  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  and  synths,  clean  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  the  music  sticks  to  mostly  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction.

Krepuskul/Hybrid/Morning Star Heathens Music Group/2018 CD Review

Krepuskul  are  a  band  from  Romania  that  plays  an  experimental  and  melodic  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "Hybrid"  which  was  released  by  Morning  Star  Heathens  Music  Group.

  A  sci-fi  orientated  synth starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  musical  direction  along  with  some  angry  shouting  vocals  while  the  music  also  mixes  in  elements  of  groove  metal  along  with  some  screams  being  utilized  at  times  which  also  brings  in  a  touch  of  black  metal.

  A  great  amount  of  melody  can  also  be  heard  in  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  music  also  mixes  in  a  great  amount  of  death  metal  elements  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also bringing  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats,'

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  some  tracks  also  bringing  in  a  small  amount  of  melodic  vocals  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  small  amount  of  back  up  shouts  can  be  heard,

  Krepuskul  plays  a  music  style  that takes  experimental,  melodic  black,  death  and  groove  metal  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  hatred,  darkness  and  war  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Krepuskul  are  a  very  great  sounding  experimental  mixture  of  melodic  black,  death  and  groove  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "OCD  Let's  Start  A  War" "The  Disciples" "Psychotherapy"  and  "Awake  17".  8  out  of  10.

Astaroth Incarnate Interview

1. For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
- Astaroth Incarnate, literal meaning being Astaroth in the flesh. We are a Blackend/Extreme Metal band formed in October 2013 in Toronto. We consist of 5 members – Astaroth (Sam) (vocals/lyrics), Pablo (guitars), Ric (guitars), Sergio (bass), Emile (drums) and our vision is to bestow the ideologies of Astaroth to our hell spawns through our interpretations and relating them to our world and society of today. Our goal is to create extreme metal which feels limitless in its creative form while staying true to our roots and influences in metal.

2. So far you have released a demo and an ep, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on both of the recordings?
- For our demo, we didn’t have real drums and basically did the whole thing ourselves and the result was satisfactory for the time being. When our current lineup came together, we felt a lot more confident in our material and felt that we should release the album professionally so we first demoed the whole album. Following that, we entered the studio to record all the instruments by each respective member and we couldn’t be happier with the result. Our sound for this album was focused on a delivering a blackend death metal style with clear production while the overall feeling still remaining natural and not too overproduced.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
- All of our lyrics are built around personal exploration for each spawn to experience in their own way. There is fear, knowledge, punishment, strengthening, torture, judgement, enlightenment and many other subjects which we portray in our material.

4. I know that the band was named after a goetic demon, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in Occultism or Demonology?
- Our front man Astaroth (Sam) from researching and reading up on demonology feels strongly connected with the demon Astaroth and in many ways connects with a lot of the ideologies that surrounds his myth. Sam believes that through invoking the spirit of Astaroth within, we are able to connect to our spawns and talk about various aspects of life as we know it and further more into the unknown and beyond.

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how wold you describe your stage performance?
- We have had the pleasure of opening for Beyond Creation, Shining (Sweden), Origin and Goatwhore. There are lots of other shows that we have also played which have been memorable experiences. As for our stage performance, we try to deliver live what you hear on the record. We want to sound natural and at the same time use some backup vocals and occasional playback intros/interludes to bring all the layering done in the album to our live audiences. We also focus on our visual aspect and focus on giving our audience a theatrical performance on top of playing our material.

6. Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
- We have setup a few shows already and are in the process of locking in some more shows from September and onwards inside Canada, notably our upcoming show opening for Aura Noir. We would also love to play abroad if given the opportunity.

7. The new ep is coming out on 'CDN Records', are you happy with the support the label has given you so far?
- We are quite happy. None of us have dealt with any records labels before and so far the support we have been receiving and continue to receive can only push us to work harder and strive to go further in our career as a band.

8. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of extreme metal?
- So far we are overwhelmed by the features we are getting from all over the world. No one has really said anything bad but the full album hasn’t come out yet. We have only released a single so far and the reviews on that has been generally great. We have had a couple album reviews as well and those have been great as well. When the album does come out, we would love to hear what everyone has to say. We appreciate both negative and positive reviews as they allow us to analyse how our music is being received and what we could do to further ourselves.

9. Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
- We have talked about incorporating some orchestration and obscure clean vocals to evolve our song writing which are hinted in this upcoming album. We plan on experimenting further for our full length to create an even more unique experience for our audience.

10. What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
- We have quite a lot of bands that we are influenced by from both metal to non-metal genres. If you were to ask of our biggest influences in writing the music for Astaroth Incarnate, the following 6 bands would suffice. Belphegor, Dying Fetus, Behemoth, Gojira, Death and Mayhem. As for new material coming out this year so far we like new releases by Carach Angren, Dying Fetus, Ex Deo, Goatwhore, Hate, Kreator, Iced Earth, Immolation, Marty Friedman, Obituary, Suffocation, Wintersun etc. There are many other great releases coming out as well which we are looking forward to.

11. What are some of your non-musical interests?
- We have quite a few. Playing video games, watching anime or tv shows/movies, cosplaying, reading books, road trips, playing sports etc.

12. Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
- We, Astaroth Incarnate, would like everyone that listens to the album to look at it with an open mind. Read the lyrics, enjoy the music and make of it however that satisfies you. Also, be on the lookout for our full length album which we will be working on next to bring you spawns in the near future.

  Astaroth  Incarnate  are  a  band  from  Toronto,  Ontario,  Canada  that  plays  a  very melodic  form  of  blackened  death  metal  along  with  some  elements  of  thrash,  groove  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2017  ep  "Omnipotence  -  The  Infinite  Darkness"  which  will  be  released  in  September  by  CDN  Records.

  An  almost  silent  soundscape  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  some  spoken  word  parts  a  few  seconds  later  and  after  awhile  powerful  sounding  bass  guitars  and  drum  beats  are  added  onto  the  recording  along  with  some  melodic  guitar  leads  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  A  lot  of  melodies  can  be  heard  in  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  riffs  also  mix  in  a  great  amount  of  thrash,  groove  and  doom  metal  elements  along  with  the  vocals  being  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  most  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  at  times  the  music  gets  very  brutal and  acoustic  guitars  are  also  used  briefly

Ominous Eclipse/End Of Days/2015 Full Length Review

  Ominous  Eclipse  are  a band  from  Ottawa,  Canada  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  melodic  death,  thrash  and  groove  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2015  album  "End  Of  Days".

 Atmospheric  sounding  synths  start  off  the  album  and  also  use  a  variety  of  many  different  sounding  keys  while  also  mixing  in  with  the  heavier  side  of  the  music  a  few  seconds  later  giving  the  songs  more  of  an  symphonic  edge  and  the  solos  and  leads  bring  in  more  of  a  technical  style  to  the  recording  and  you  can  also  hear  elements  of  thrash  and  groove  metal.

  Vocals  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams  and  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on the  recording  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  part  and  their  is  also a  brief  use  of  clean  guitars  while  the  main  focus  remains  more  on  a  heavier  style  and  there  is  also  a  small  amount  of  melodic  vocals.

C.B Murdoc/Here Be Dragons/ViciSolum Productions/2016 CD Review

  C.B  Murdoc  are  a  band  from Sweden  that  plays  a  very  technical  and  progressive  mixture  of   melodic  black, death  and  groove  metal  with  elements  of  sludge, and  jazz  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "Here  Be  Dragons"  which  will  be  released  in  June  by  ViciSolum  Productions.

  Drum  beats  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  clean  playing  and  acoustic  guitars  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  leads  up  to  melodic  vocals  also  being  added  onto  the  recording  along  with  some  heavy  riffs  that  also  use  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  after  the  intro  the  music  gets  more  fast  along  with  some  brutal  blast  beats.

  Black  metal  screams  can  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  songs  along  with  a  lot  of  the  music  being  very  technical  while t he  vocals  also  bring  in  death  metal  growls  at  times  and  after  awhile  elements  of  groove  and  prog  metal  are  added  onto  the  recording  while t he  solos  and  leads  remain  true  to  a  technical  style.

  Throughout  the  recording  there  is  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  elements  of  sludge  and  jazz  can  be  heard  on  some  of  the  tracks  and  some  of  the  songs  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  as  the  album  progresses  clean  playing  also  makes  a  return  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  some  songs  also  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  avant  garde  elements  while  some  songs  also  add  in  a  touch  of  djent.

  C.B  Murdoc  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  melodic  black,  progressive  and  technical  death  and  mixes  it  with  sludge  and  groove  metal  to  create  something  very  original,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  C.B  Murdoc  are  a  very  great  sounding  melodic,  technical  and  progressive  mixture  of  black,  death  and  groove  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Debt  Of  Guilt"  "The  Green"  "Diamonds"  and  "Objecting  projection".  8  out  of  10.

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band? …From the Deep are a 5 piece band from Ottawa Canada. We want to immerse the listener in an atmosphere dictated by acoustic breaths of calm and screams of agony, and to ignite curiosity of what is to come. We blend ominous groove with the relentless crushing of your spirit. We consistently perform high energy and intricate sets in which we experiment with visual components, instrumental soundscape "jams", and acts of self-inflicted physical brutality.

We are currently promoting our newest EP “The Absurd Horror”

2.In July you had released a new ep, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

We have always experimented with different soundscapes and different styles, and that is found in both of our recordings, and even more so in the new material that we are working on now. Our newest EP “The Absurd Horror” follows an organic flow of short-lived peaceful contemplation followed by excruciating agony, and then repeated in a cosmic cycle.


3.This was the first release to come out in 5 years, can you tell us a little bit more about what has been going on during that time span?

Despite the long stretch in between recordings, we have been playing a ton of shows in the Ontario and Quebec region. We have also been working on a ton of new material as we are looking to release our next recordings within the next year. We take our time planning out the songs and album concepts, and are very specific with the entirety of our music.


4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with music?

Our lyrics are inspired by a broad range of subjects, such as: the insignificance of our existence when faced with the vast intricacies of the universe, esoteric literature, consciousness, and the exhaustion of modern life.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name '...From the Deep"?

..From the Deep is a reference to the unknown. We aim to create a sense of uncertainty in our music and lyrics, in that our music is always shifting in styles, tempos, and atmosphere. The ever changing moods found in our music and live performances are crucial to the deeper exploration and exploitation of the unknown absurdities which hide in our minds.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

…From the Deep have been fortunate to play with a ton of international acts that have influenced us, such as Cattle Decapitation, Kreator, Absu, Macabre, Origin, Taake, and so many more. We have also been competing in shows such as Brutal Battle Cuba (Ottawa winners and playing the finals in Montreal soon), Wacken Metal Battle 2015, and En Route to Heavy MTL (Ottawa winners).We are known for our high energy performances with self inflicted assault and impressive displays of vocal ability from our vocalist Graham Cwinn.

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

We are keeping our fingers crossed that we may have the opportunity to play in Cuba if we succeed in our Brutal Battle Cuba competition, otherwise, unless Mother Earth has deservedly reclaimed her throne and fatally introduced our species to our mortality, …From the Deep will continue to create music that satisfies our curiosity of the unknown, and will hopefully leave ourselves bloodied and contorted on a stage near you…

10.When can we expect a full length album and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

We have come up with a few concepts for full lengths and shorter releases, and it is more important for us to have recordings that are complete pieces of art that flow naturally, as opposed to getting as much material on a record as possible. We aim to have our newest release within the next year. 11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Each member of the band bring different influences and styles which helps us make our unique sound. Some notable influences include Opeth, Meshuggah, Withered, Gorguts, Gojira, Decapitated, The Ocean, Pink Floyd, and many more.

12.What are some of your non musical interests?

Esoteric literature, many forms of literature, existential thought, martial art philosophy, exploring the mind and it’s many horrifying doorways.

...From The Deep/The Absurd Horror/2015 EP Review

  ...From  The  Deep  are  a  band  from  Ottawa,  Canada  that  plays  a  melodic  and  technical  mixture  of  black,  death  and  groove  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2015  ep  "The  Absurd  Horror".

  Clean  guitar  playing  starts  off  the  ep  and  after  awhile  the  music  starts  to  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  that  introduces  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams  onto  the  recording  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  more  of  a  modern  groove  metla  direction  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  and  the  music  at  times  can  also  be  very  progressive  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  also  getting  more technical  as  the  ep  progresses  and  classical  guitars  are  also  utilized  briefly.

  ...From  The  Deep  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  modern  groove  metal,  progressive  and  technical  death  metal  and  mixes  it  with  melodic  black  metal  to  create  a  musical  style  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  philosophical  themes.

  In  my  opinion  ...From  the  Deeps are  a  very  great  sounding  melodic  and technical  mixture  of  black,  death  and groove  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Unspeakable"  and  'We  Will  All  be  trees".  8  out  of  10
