A.C.O.D/Versets Noirs/Hammerheart Records/2024 Full Length Review

 

  France's  A.C.O.D  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  a  melodic  and  blackened  style  of  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Versets  Noirs"  which  will b e  released  in  April  by  Hammerheart  Records.

  Synths  and  operatic  chants  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  first  track  is  also  over  20  minutes  in  length.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams  along  with  some  orchestration  also  being  mixed  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.

  Spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  Female  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  as  well  as  some  spoken  word  parts  and  clean  playing  also  being  utilized on  a  couple  of  tracks,  throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  album  closes  with  a  cover  of  Samael's  "Black  Trip".  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  and  Afterlife  themes.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  A.C.O.D  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  orchestra  oriented  melodic  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Habentis  Maleficia"  and  "Black  Trip".  8  out  of  10.

A.C.O.D/Cryptic Curse/Les Acteurs De L'Ombre Productions/2023 EP Review

 

  France's  A.C.O.D  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  gong  for  more  of  a  melodic  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  ep  "Cryptic  Curse"  which  was  released  by  les  Acteurs  De  L'Ombre  Productions.

  Synths  and  clean  playing  start  off  the  ep  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  musical  direction.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  along  with  all  of t he  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to t hem.

  Elements  of  death  metal  can  also b e  hear d in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  music  also h as  its  symphonic  moments.  Spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  when  they  are  utilized,  throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  On  this  recording  A.C.O.D  adds  in  some  symphonic  touches  to  their  melodic  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  to  create  something  very  different  sounding  from  their  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  magick,  death  and  afterlife  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  A.C.O.D  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  melodic  and  symphonic  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "The  Mask  of  Fate".  8  out  of  10.

A.C.OD/Fourth Reign: Over Opacities And Beyond/Les Acteurs de' L'Ombre Productions/2022 Full Length Review

 

  A.C.O.D  are  a  band  from  France  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  goes  for  a  melodic  blackened  death metal  style  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Fourth  Reign:  Over  Opacities  And  Beyond"  which  was  released  by  Les  Acteurs  de'  L  Ombre  Productions.

  Dark  soundscapes  and  synths  start  off  the  album  while  percussion  and  whispers  can  also  be  heard  briefly  before  going  into  a   faster  direction.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.    

  Death  metal  growls  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  the  music  also  has  its  symphonic  moments  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  lot  of  melody.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  spoken  word  parts  also  being  utilized  on  a  couple  of  songs.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  the  riffing  also  adding  in  elements  of  thrash  metal  at  times  as  well  as  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  and  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  occultism and the writings of Dante.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  A.C.O.D  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  melodic  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Genus  Vacuitatis"  "Artes  obscurae"  and  "Through  The  Astral  Door".  8  out  of  10.

A.C.o.D/Inner Light/2016 EP Review

  A.C.o.D  are  a  band  from  France  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black,  melodic  death  and  thrash  metal  on  this  recording  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2016  ep  "Inner  Light".

  A  very  heavy  and  melodic  thrash  influenced  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  soem  blast  beats  and  black  metal  screams  a  few  seconds  later  and  the  music  also incorporates  a  great  amount  of  melodic  death  metal  elements  along  with  a  few  growls  and  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  when  guitar  leads  and  solos  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  and  when  synths  are  utilized  they  give  the  music  a  symphonic  edge  and  back  up  gang  shouts  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  the  songs  also  mix  in  a  great  amount  of  Swedish  influences.

  On  this  recording  A.C.o.D  expands  on  their  blackened  thrash  metal  style  by  adding  in  elments  of  melodic  death  metal  this  time  around,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  A.C.o.D  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  melodic  death  and  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "And  Darkness  Around".  8 out  of  10.
